Happy Mother's Day. Grantsburg 6 - Alpha 0
|
My mother is ElRose Johnson. She is awesome..
Go hug your Mother!
Ok. I will admit it. When Alpha was given an athletic dome by Burnett Dairy...I am thinking that is the strangest thing I have ever heard. But on a day like this it was exactly what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the late call Alpha Schools... we appreciate your hospitality. We are still not sure how all of this happened so quickly, but we are grateful.
This morning, the trail to my deer stand was very busy.

The JV spent the morning making DUGOUTS!
Cumberland and Osceola were not able to come today but a grand time was had by all. After telling the umps how to get to Alpha they still couldn't find the dome as they ended up in Falun. After driving around Falun for about 30 minutes they called Don. The traffic was not too bad so they made it to Alpha in about 20 minutes and we were ready to play.
Since this was a non conference game we decided to give Emily a chance to see what she had. So Emily started the game as our pitcher. During warmups she looked a bit shaky but as the game started she seemed to settle down. Alpha's first batter had kind of a cheesy stance but was still able to hit the ball hard. With an 0-2 count she hit a line drive right back at the pitcher. Michelle yelled "Prescott", Em ducked....but she had already caught the ball for the first out. The next two batters grounded out.
Tiff came to bat for the Pirates. She was coming off a good game vs. SCF. She had successfully placed 3 bunts and was looking to swing away. On the first pitch, she did and laced a single to right center. Kylie batted right handed tonight and was hit smack in the knee cap on the first pitch. But Alpha was able to close the door and Grantsburg put up a goose egg in the first inng.
Cody, Emily and Annie try and stay warm in the new dome.
The second inning would prove to be a good one for Grantsburg. Romo started the inning with a walk. Nicole came in to run and stole second and third on the next two pitches. Cody ripped one off the pitchers foot but Nicole stayed at third. Sarah then set up the third baseman. She squared to bunt.....the 3rd baseman charged... she pulled back and slapped the ball between the player and the base line.... Nicole scored and Cody went all the way to third. Great Bat control by Sarah. Cody would eventually score when Michelle hit one up the middle. Grantsburg 2 - Alpha 0.
Now that Lauren has contacts, Tiff wanted to try her Old glasses!

Emily was able to pitch through 4 innings. During those 4 innings, she did not give up a hit but she did walk 2 batters. She has been working on a screw ball and tonight it really was screwy. Batters had a hard time letting it go as it broke low and inside. I think we will see that pitch a lot more. Jessica would come in for the last 3 innings and shut them down.

Even though Grantsburg threatened, they didn't score again until the 6th inning.... It seems that you have to see a pitcher a couple of times before you can really rock her. That was the case tonight. Mac started the inning by socking the ball to left. Tiff picked up her second hit of the night by pushing a ball just inside the right field line. Annie almost put a hole in the baggy when her blast finally landed. It was a ground rule triple scoring both runs. Heather followed with a line drive foul. Annie ducked and it hit Don...right in his bionic knee... so it didn't hurt much! After a Sarah single, and a Finchy double Grantsburg's scoring was done 6-0.
Cody and Sarah warm up on the fans....
For the game, Emily pitched four innings and did not give up a hit. Jessica shut them out for the last 3 allowing just 2 hits and only 1 walk. Grantsburg had 1 error for the day. Alpha ended the game with 0 runs on just the 2 hits. They also committed 2 errors. In Emily's world she had 4 hits....Sarah also had 3...Finchy 2. Elise finally batted and also got a hit.
There were a couple of really strange plays. What else would you expect on a snowy day outside. Of course it had to involve Gab...who else. It was an inside pitch...she jumped back but the ball snuck into the area where she had a missing button and went right inside her shirt. The runner at third broke for the plate...thinking the ball was by the catcher. The catcher knew where the ball was and started chasing Gab... Gab started running to first...... When it was all over, the runner had to go back to third. They did award Gab first base.
Thanks Alpha for inviting us to your new dome... It saved our day....
TWIS: Brian couldn't believe the field was under water... We checked and an outside game would NOT have worked. Tiff and Romo got a call from the all-star slow pitch teams. Kylie found her glove and her bat... Kayla got her ipod back. Michelle kind of enjoyed playing right field....and left field... She started in left fied as a frosh during the state tournament. HD is finally back from the little house and her attitude has improved. Otto's hair matched Siren/Webster but she didn't know the school colors for Alpha. Thanks Mike for getting today arranged....Nicole talked again today... Don's life is still going well. He finally ate the dead turkey from his windshield...can you believe that some people didn't believe the story??? Romo's dad missed her homerun vs. SCF. We almost had a double play tonight. My pontoon has snow on it. Graduation is coming quickly....so is the end of the season...so take some time to just enjoy the day. Emily...you lazy bum? Why are you dead on the couch??? too much morp? Didn't feel creative???? Maybe on Monday we will get out the softies and play SHOTS! Mac will give you pointers. The twins just had there first rain out in 30 years... Since we actually played today, perhaps we CANT count it as a rain out! And if you are not from Grantsburg, perhaps everything you just read makes sense! See ya in the tourney.....we hope!
...and we all lived happily ever after!
Frederic Tuesday, Unity Thursday... Make up Tournament...who knows???
