Cinco de Mayo—or “Fifth of May”—is a Mexican holiday that commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over an invading French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Este es el segundo en importancia al 14 de mayo. Favor de traer regalos y golosinas a la caseta en ese día. Gracias.

Cinco De Romo!
With great sadness, we need to start talking about the end of the season. Parent's Night will be Tuesday, May 18. It is a home game against Unity. Parents will be introduced prior to the game. It would be a good idea to be at the field right around 4:30. I know that it is very early for those of you at your job so see how it goes. This Saturday is our tournament with Cumberland and Osceola. We play at 10:00 then have a game off before playing the final round. The JV will follow the same schedule. There will be some wonderful pulled pork sandwiches available between games. It is a good fund raiser...so bring cash and support the concession stand.
The seeding meeting for the regional tournament takes place on May 19. The number 1 seed gets a bye during the first round of the tournament and also gains home field advantage for the other two games. So even though we play Amery and Superior after this meeting, our seed will be based on the record as of May 19. The meeting will be held at St. Croix Central. If the seeding is obvious, coaches will decide via email. If it is not obvious, coaches need to show up and plead their cases.

Going into tonight's game our team batting average was UP 150 points from last year. So how much is based on the pitching rubber? How much is based on the fact that maybe our hitters improved? How much is based on the fact that the other teams may not be as good?? Who knows but 150 points is crazy!!! We purposely DO NOT publish the stats. The only important stat is whether we win or not. But I will tell you some of the current stats. Emily leads the team in batting average at 600 and runs scored with 21. Jessica has the most walks with 9. Tiff has the most hits with 21. Annie has the most doubles with 4 while Gabbie has an amazing 5 triples. Heather has the most RBI's with 17. Annie leads in slug percentage with 955. Michelle's ERA (earned run average) is 1.01. That pitching stat means that she would give up1.01 runs per 7 innings if the team did not make any errors. Kylie and Heather remain as the only two starters to NOT strike out. I would admit that we had a couple of VERY strange strike 3 calls...or there would be more. We have played 41 games in a row without a rainout. While these kids have played softball in high school, their 4 year record is 80-2.... which leaves room for improvement!! They have also won the last 39 in a row. We have 8 regular season games left...then hopefully a few tourney games. oh...i forgot to mention that the year before that Grantsburg won 25 in a row...then the state championship....Oh I forgot...the year before that they also won 20 in a row...but don't worry...the year before that they went to the state tournament starting 4 frosh and 4 sophs....
Good Friends on both sides.......
Don would have been to the game earlier...
but he was hunting turkey with his windshield!
Don was NOT hurt....only the window.

Last year in Milwaukee Mike Amundson and Elise tried to walk through a drive up. We had just been to the Brewer's game as guests and they were hungry! The regular fast food place was closed. They would not serve them because they did NOT have a car. They asked the guy inside if they could borrow his car. He said NO. So they asked him if he would drive them through.... He said "I would love to but then nobody would be here to take your order." He politely explained...."Company policy: you must have a car to use the drive through." Elise then asked....What are the requirements of a car? He called the cops....

Tonight's Game summary. We will soon have a game where somebody is actually interested in how we scored. Tonight is not the night so I will give you a game summary. Grantsburg scored 15 runs on 11 hits, 2 walks, and 7 errors. Tiff scored 2 runs and had 2 hits. Kylie picked up a bunt single in the first inning. Sam scored twice and got yelled at once!! Michelle and Nicole each had a hit. HD was 2 for 2 for the night...Jess and Gab each had a hit, too. Finchy and her new contacts batted 1000. Michelle pitched the first 4 innnings and Sam pitched #5. Webster would score zero runs but did get a nice hit in the 7th inning by Daniels. In the 7th inning, Grantsburg just missed on a 1-6-3 double play. It would have cost me Ice Cream! Michelle said that even though she was not the one in the game....she would still eat some! Grantsburg did not have an error.
Finchy's new contacts! Did you know that when the teacher stands by the board he is really writing words???

Romo and Tiff throw out a runner at second (SH)
TWIS: A good weekend was had by all. BW beat SCC. Amery smoked Prescott. Kylie practiced groundballs until her arm hurt. Mich worked on endurance. I went fishing and almost gone blown to bits. We got a light rain that did NOT soften the field. Monday's practice was actually a pre-game. Then people left to sing....right in the middle of practice.. Then Tiff whined...then Mac wore a helmet alllll day 'cause she was tired of getting hit. So we hit her! EC skipped the "get hit in the body station." nobody else knew.... You know how Romo does that jumping jack thing before she bats??? She hit the last catcher...then apologized of course. The ENTIRE TEAM WENT AND SUPPORTED THE BASEBALL TEAM! JV has 4 games this week. When Sam throws, the ball explodes. This web page had guest contributors DURING the school day.. Mexican jumping beans are real. Go back and watch the YOUTUBE video. I liked the Siren/Webster Baseball uniforms. They need more bulbs on the baseball Score board...I thought it was H to L. Did you watch Mollie's catch? College seasons are about over...except for playoffs. Did you know that May 4 was National Teacher Appreciation Day? Thanks to all of my best friends that congratulated me!! both of you....What uniforms should we wear next? Think we should switch uniforms Saturday noon? On Monday, we practiced weird plays... FINCHY HAS HER CONTACTS>>>>> She now knows that wood ticks have legs?? How many people still have their old Wood Tick Race Tshirts? AKA the 1988 Summer Olympticks? If you print out this page, you can get in free to ALL home games. Heather had knots in her shoe laces...maybe that is why. Sooo good to see Ing. Do you remember her double play vs. Park Falls? Sam said she was sorry... sweet kid! Did you see the jumping bean?? And Emily...you throw that ###....at me....my thumb didn't even hurt...much. Some of the AP classes are over...yikes. Yes, Don really did hit a turkey....but Don's beard was longer...so no problem. I think I saw some baseball players at the game...thanks. Is this Friday? Nicole talked tonight. Nicolodean almost hit one out...but the catcher ran it down. Elise played at the Carleton Alumni game last Saturday. She was the only alumni to get a hit. Cody wanted to hit...but she walked and then took one in the back. When she got to first...she told me to leave her alone. Remember the name Stacey McKenzie...she is batting over 700 on the JV team. Elise says she is realllllly good! The JV is also undefeated and their games have NOT been as close as ours. Way to go Elise. Way to go JV... 3 more games this week.
SYBTF still MaY day...in my world.
