Grantsburg 17 - Rush City 0
Good morning everybody......We have a few odds and ends to clear up before we talk Rush City. So let's finish up the Unity game. These pictures come from Photo Legend Scott Hoffman. And speaking up the football legend Scott Hoffman, I found some stats as I was cleaning out my desk. Did you know he was ALL-STATE? 161 carries for 1316 yards. His average per carry way 8.17 yards. He scored 21 touchdowns. Led the conference in points scored... Scored 4 touchdowns in one game on 7 carries. Defensively, he led the team. blocked 3 punts...blocked 3 extra points... He played a stand up noseguard.... He was a Grantsburg Stud. When you see him, ask him why he never ran sweeps to the left?????
Nicole was catcher for 3 innings. Here she tags out a Unity runner at the Plate. Nicole also had a line drive hit.

Romo slides into third safely. For the night, she batted 1000.

One more step and.....FACE PLANT!!!!!
stepped on a poisonous chipmunk!

And when we FINALLY opened it, it was rotten!!!
I couldn't believe it...... Ask Romo! Do you feel like a nut??
and now the Rush City game.
Frosh Sam walks ZERO! Emily befriends Homeless guy!
Yesterday, I spent 6 hours in the car. You have lots of time to think. Rush City is called the Tigers. Do you think it has something to do with the prison and stripes? Maybe not??? Did you know that the Fighting Sioux are having issues with their name? Did you know that the guy who donated the hockey rink made leather chairs...each with a fighting Sioux? Disrespectable or not//// the chairs are there to stay.... And when that rich guy was in high school he hated the walk from the locker room to the bus...so the new stadium has the bus drive underground...right to the locker room door. But who stands up for the poor little tigers??? Do they have a spokesperson? And then we have the Grantsburg Pirates...why? If you look back at the board minutes we were almost called the Generals...which would have made more sense considering we are named after some guy called Grant... he must have been a ball player! But we are called the Pirates... I am not really sure but possibly it is because Captain Don resembles Captain Sparrow.
Coach Don's senior Picture! from Barron High School.
Lauren Finch was NOT one of the pictures of the EYE shots. She did not have her contacts, yet. I can tell you that the people were.... Heather, Romo, Mac, Tuh, Cody, and Me..... My mascara was a bit messy after Emily chased me down the base path.

State champion 2006 3rd base)
Pirates make quite the catch in Rush City
Musky Bait??
Grantsburg was held scoreless in the first inning and struck out twice. It was not a good start. Don had a little chat with the team about focus and then things improved. In the second inning, Otto started off with a single up the middle. Annie walked. Finchy hit in the first runs of the game. In the second inning Grantsburg scored four runs.
Grantsburg added 5 more in the third. Highlights of the inning included a triple by Gab, a double by Sam and another hit by Tiff. The runners were aided by several wild pitches and passed balls. Our plan for the night was to give each player 2 times at bat so at this time the remainder of the players entered the game.
More scoring issues: Pretend Cody batted twice. The first time she lined a single to center. The next time she hit a flyball to center scoring a runner from third. The next time she walked. What was her batting average for the night?
The little things in BIG FONT: Don't walk anybody! No passed balls! No Errors! Take the extra base! Know the next play! Soon....one of the above will either win the game or lose the game. Even when the score is 17-0 you had better practice being at your best.... The team counts on YOU!!
Action shots by Scott Hoffman.
Just a couple quick tidbits about the game. Please come back in the morning for more...Tonight, I have a date! Grantsburg scored 17 runs on 14 hits and used 5 walks. Tiff had 3 hits for the Pirates. Sam and Romo each had 2 hits. Tiff had the big RBI night with 5 while Sam used her first full varsity game to pick up 3. Finchy and Annie each had 2.
Frosh Sam pitched the entire game for Grantsburg. She gave up 3 hits but walked NOBODY!! nice first outing. Rush City had only one runner reach second base.
With this run Grantsburg is now a Perfect 10. I asked some players if they remembered Bo Derrick and the movie...of course not, I did not explain that is why the Capital 1 commercials have some old guy in braided corn rows. It makes me want to go running at the beach. Maybe I will rent that movie one more time...oh wait, I OWN it.gg
TWIS: We saw the bridge!! We were told not to use the old out house for 2 reasons...1) Rush City uses it as a backstop and 2) Some lady had been in there for 3 days. The 4:30 start surprised some people! Cody kept running out of the dugout...not sure where she was going. Flyballs before the game made me laugh. Heather got stuck in the fence...EC stepped in a hole... even Michelle blinked her eyes. Burger King!!! No contacts yet for Finchy...but she did have a nice hit. Nice to have Tiff back. Gene McKenzie goes to every athletic contest. The game was from 40 feet tonight...makes a diff! The JV had another great night... Stacey Mc was good. The JV coach from Rush City was Jamie....used to teach at Grantsburg. Kylie does not want to be the pie any longer. Elise will be gone this weekend to play in her own alumni game at Carleton!...where the average ACT score is in the 30's. We use small words for Heather. BK was packed. Next time Melodie and Tracey will order for me. Funny how many people want Cody to eat stuff. What do you think Okno, ohno, ownyofmyowny? Did you see the pink moon? Todd has a nice bus. Michelle tripped on the hill. We had ours removed. How did Sam get her nick name? Next week 4 games!! also 4 JV games... No JV practice tonight as the varsity goes to Clear Lake. Barron has been doing awesome. Frederic is on a roll. Baseball fund raiser on the Saturday tournament. The youth softball teams are firing up practices. Thanks Brian for all of your stat work.
SYBTF!
