ROMO ROCKS THE FALLS!
The rest of this newsletter will appear tomorrow morning...when ALL of my 8th graders are GONE...yeah! Bring doughnuts!
Going, going.....still going.....touch 'em all ROMO!!
Romo wrote this note at 3:00. SHE HAD A GOOOOOOD DAY!
For you LONG time readers, this is an old story.....but I still think it is a good one. On the St. Croix Falls side there is a town called St. Croix Falls. Then you cross the river and it is called Taylor's Falls. Why are there two names? And to top off things did you know the name of the third Falls? And where are they now? Was it really Osceola Falls? Which leads us to the most important conundrum of them all.... Do you know the name of the Dresser School song? Stay Tuned!
SCF coach suddenly busts some NEW moves...!
So far this year has been quite amazing. I am not really sure how, but Don has entered 17 and 18 different hitters into 4 and 5 inning games. During these games, our biggest problem has been trying to give out playing time. One of the techniques used was to let players bat twice then sub for them. If the sub gets to bat twice, the original player then comes back in.
Tiff AMAZED ALL AGAIN>>WHAT A PLAY!

Tiffany had perhaps the greatest play since her state tournament greatest play. It was a one hop line drive headed to right. Tiff dove to her left and short hopped the ball. In the process she got dirt in both eyes and she couldn't see. Her socks stretched out so they looked like Mac's. Her glove came off and she broke her arm in 17 places. So she got to her knees and threw the runner out with her right foot... What a play!!
BUT...we soon need to practice for the game where one screw up causes you to lose. Here would be some scenarios that could cause you to lose a game. You walk a batter. A passed ball by our catcher allows a runner to advance. Somebody doesn't tag at third base when a line drive is hit to the outfield. An infielder commits an error which gives an extra base. An outfielder commits an error that gives us a run. Somebody misses the sign to bunt. Somebody strikes out rather than putting the ball into play and advancing a runner. The throw goes to the wrong base. You have a chance for an extra base but you did NOT get it. You didn't go far enough on a short fly, they missed it, and you were forced out at the next base. For all of these reasons, practice is very, very important. Because soon....ONE or TWO of our players will either enable us to win....or force our season to end. It takes great concentration to win close games.... A boa constricts the opponent, waits for it to take a breath, and then it is over. You have to do all 100 things correctly....or you lose. So check out your team mates. Do they know how to win? Do they practice hard? Are YOU better today than you were yesterday? last week? You had better be.......because I know a few teams who are practicing pretty hard. Deb Johnson once wore a t-shirt...it said the sophomore who is going to take your place next year is PRACTICING today.... Practice Well!
Doesn't Kylie take wonderful pics? So I asked her...did you find your glove, yet? No, she replied. Did you ever find where you stored your bat? No, she replied. Does your arm feel better today? No, she replied. Are you practicing your two steps on your throws? No, she replied. Would you like to cut into the front of the line at the Now busy outhouse? No, she replied.... So she went back to work...being the starting freshmen shortstop on the defending state championship team. You are good Kylie! Now go find your stuff!
Just prior to the game, Don got a call on his cell phone. He missed the entire warm ups and allowed Emily to take his place. We thought it was an emergency call... It was NOT. It was Virginia.....she was worried about Mac's Socks.
On Saturday we will play Cumberland at 10:00... unless it snows. I have already asked Mike about the possibility of playing the tournament later in the day...when the snow is gone. Osceola will then play Cumberland 30 minutes after our game. The third round is Grantsburg and Osceola. The JV teams will follow the same schedule. During the day Pork sandwiches will be sold at the concession stand. It is a good time to support the softball program financially...as well as gastronomically. Baseball will be playing at the same time against different teams. If soccer is playing, too, the school grounds will be filled with people. Remind the soccer parents that if their kids had hand skills, they could be sitting in our bleachers!! Don't forget about parent's night on May 18.
And for you JV players.... here is your coach showing how to hit an outside pitch.
New Fad in softball wear.
The fable of the sock: Once upon a time there was young maiden named McKenzie. She had this special skill where she would either get hit in her good knee or her bad knee...or even her zygomatic arch. There was a time when she was chasing a young prince when suddenly the swelling in her knee subsided. The magic sock was stretched beyond repair and settled quietly down around her ankle. When she would bat, the children in the dugout would snicker while the parents in the stands would simply smile. She eventually laced a single(no pun intended) to center and then tried to run. The top of the sock waved in the wind like a wheat field in the fall. Soon the other cleat would get caught and....FACE PLANT! Part of Saturday's fund raiser will be to buy this princess new socks. As you can see, they may fill up with snow if the weather person is correct.
It was an awesome game for Grantsburg. It was filled with great things. For starters, Michelle pitched a shutout and went 7 innings with 0 walks. Romo launched a great homerun to left and collected 4 RBI's. Tiff made a sweet play at second. Grantsburg had 11 different players get hits. A good time was had by all.
To start the game Tiff singled to right off the glove of the second baseman. When Michelle doubled to the gap, Grantsburg had all the runs it needed. St. Croix came out firing, too. Chelberg started the game with a hit to left. She is a verrrrrry good athlete. After Hansen collected a hit, SCF had runners on second and third with one out. Michelle then got the next two batters on pop ups. The pirates would add another run in the second. In the third inning the score would become 5-0. Grantsburg would score at least one run in each inning except the 4th. Even though the two lead off batters reached base, SCF was able to shut Grantsburg down.
St. Croix Falls was a good team. They made a couple of mistakes but showed great promise. They have some really good athletes and I can see that they have made great improvements. When SCF does not walk people they will be in every game.... remember the SCF coach from the beginning of the newsletter? Romo threw one to Annie at first. The SCF first base coach was surprised...and immediately busted some moves...we all cheered.... the music should have been on....
Hallo Mama (Marlis Guenther), Cody und Lauren sind die besten softball-spieler! By the way, I will marry and American boy while I am here. I hope that is OK. His parents will stay at your home all summer. Please make good food. And my court date has been postponed. The new tattoo across the front of my neck is just barely visible when I wear my snow parka. PS: Could you raise the limit on my newly purchased credit card?
Love and Kisses....Nic.
TWIS: We all watched Sarah FACE plant on second in practice. Tiff laughed soo hard that she couldn't throw the ball from first to home. Emily wanted to play shots! NOT! She also didn't trust Don hitting flyballs to Heather. The JV grabbed all the rakes and dude the JV field. If it snows tonight, it will be fine. We almost practiced on the VACANT fields...but thought better. Cody sat by the outfield fence and did Yoga. Gab runs with her glove out... Did you see Annie at short? Mac didn't get hit tonight. The cookies were grand....Thanks to that VERY special person who delivered...you set a wonderful EXAMPLE. Great Face expressions in FAST/SLOW... Thanks Hanson family for throwing some pitches. TUH quit listening to music in class. In America, we always study during class!! Wait, did I also see Nicalodean face plant? Yes I did. Good thing Bart caught the ball heading at my truck. Where can we get engineer boots with spikes?? Why does Tiff's mom think she is a SUB?? Amery is on a roll... Barron, too...Pine City is doing very well...Northwood leads their conference. Michelle's sox are red. Kylie's arm fell off. We will make her into a catcher next year. Don's life is going well. Don't mess it up! Seems like everybody saw the double rainbow. Is it Roy G. Biv Or Johnny B Good? Mrs. LePage says that Indigo is only included to make a reasonable acronym. So too bad seniors that all of the academic data was recovered....It would have been nice to have a clean start..Melody, you forgot to order me #1. So we thought JoHanna was in mcDonalds...but JoHanna was Jo and Hanna...funny! SCC came and scouted. On Wisconsin, On Dresser! Good to see Hal and little hal. Tommy J even showed his face. Where was Bart? thginot si morp! Romo and Heather are looking for Trash bags... not sure why... The JV had another good outing. They kept hitting balls over to the JV baseball field. Sam and Grace will each pitch a JV game during the blizzard.
There was early controversy. Obstruction is a play when a fielder keeps a runner from getting to the base. Michelle was sliding into home plate. In OUR opinion (which didn't count for much) Michelle slid into the catcher before the catcher caught the ball. The catcher then tagged her out. We thought it was obstruction. Catchers can NOT block the plate unless they are already holding the ball. The umpire did not agree... but he did buy 2 loads of shavings!
