Happy Birthday Coach Bjelland

The following picture comes from Marty Seeger at the Leader.  He remarked that Don was taking his birthday pretty serious.  Here is what everyone should know about Don.  Don is very, very, very good at what he does.  Don started the Fastpitch program from scratch.  Don has taken 4 teams to the state tournament.  Don has won 2 state championships.  Don has the wonderful ability to teach softball while respecting each player.  He organizes, he pitches, he listens, he makes players improve, he motivates...He wins......  Happy Birthday Don!  If it were not for you,  Grantsburg softball would NOT be at the level it is....

and yes, you look pretty serious!!!

We know you like dogs...this dog story comes to you from Mike Moritz

Old St. Croix Falls stories: In 2005 we were undefeated going into the regional championship game.  Suddenly it started to rain.  SCF was able to pitch, catch, and hit in the rain.  We could not.  SCF beats the Pirates.  In 2009 SCF comes to play undefeated Grantsburg.  Grantsburg has two players sitting because they had played slow pitch.  SCF plays well and beats the Pirates 2-0.  We did leave the score in the program but OFFICIALLY SCF had to forfeit the game because they had used players from the same slow pitch game.  The official score of a forfeit is 7-0.  With that official score Grantsburg went on to claim a perfect 27-0 season.  When the Frederic coach played high school softball she was from SCF.  To this day, Erin is the only visiting player to hit a homerun on our field.  It hit the yellow fence top in center and then bounced over.  Over the years it has always been SCF that has made Grantsburg just a bit better.  From our perspective SCF has tradition!  Speaking of tradition....below is some of the fastpitch tradition on the men's side.  Can you name any of the four trouble makers????  They were ALL pretty DARN good.... Oh wait, I think they still are!  AND.. I think an ERICKSON girl just hit one out of our park.....

ALL STORIES AND PICS WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY MORNING>>>>

The rest of this page will show up MID morning...

so please come back.....

Annie missed the New Richmond game because her future college coach gathered next year's team.  While Annie was there she got to see Mollie play for Winona.  Mollie was named Conference player of the week and is one of Winona's Key players.  You dude good, Mollie!!!!

The game!

Michelle came out smokin' and SCF went quickly in the first inning. Sarah and Michelle each singled in the Grantsburg half.  Then a strange play happened...Don had just talked about it the night before.  Heather hit a pop up with runners at first and second.  Infield fly was called which meant that Heather was automatically out.  The SCF player dropped the ball.  Sarah advanced.  Weird stuff happens....anyway Sarah scored.  Then Emily drilled one to center and the Pirates had 2 runs.

There was also another weird play.  Judge Judy called an illegal pitch on SCF.  Michelle swung and lined to left.  Unsure of what just happened she stood there for awhile...and eventually ran to first.  When an ump calls an illegal pitch, keep playing.  When the play is over, you have the choice of an illegal pitch....or whatever happened.  Since Michelle singled, we decided to keep the play.  Weird stuff happens.

In the second inning Romo was the lead off batter.  She has been ON fire ever since she painted her helmet.  She doubled over the left fielder's head.  Cody followed with a triple.  Before this inning was over, the Pirates scored 6 more....and the purple reign continued...

Don found 2 more people interested in Dog stories!!

and then weird stuff happened.  The DP and flex have to share the same spot in the batting order.  SCF tried to sub the Flex in the wrong spot.  Judge Judy explained the rules....  The sub rule perplexes people.

cute story:  Erickson from SCF became the first visiting player in a long time to hit one out of our park...Nice hit.  and without prompting I watched our dugout clap as she ran by.  It was a nice hit and our players showed good respect...  Way to go Hal!  Here are some pics for your fridge..compliments of Scott.

The Pirates would end the game with 17 hits and 15 runs.  Tiffany hit the ball hard but tonight it was ATOM balls.  If you are not familiar with that term, ask somebody.  Sarah went 2 for 2 and took one in the butt.  Michelle had the best average on the team going into the game and picked up a hit of her own.  HD has been on fire.  She was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs/  Almost everything she hits is hit well.  Then there is EC.  With a mixture of rockets and peep shots, she picked up 4 hits...... She gets sooo excited to bat that she often tries to sneak in and bat twice each time around.  Romo has found magic water......It is soooo good to watch her success.  Tonight she had 3 shots.  Cody's triples happen faster than most...she is fast.. and so is Kylie who showed off her speed twice tonight getting 2 hits.  Annie found the line for a double of her own....

SCF showed some good skills, too. They picked up 8 hits in their 5 at bats.  Their second baseman had a great night.  The shortstop also had a good night.  SCF has had a couple of good games.  They lost to Frederic by one and also Chetek by one... both are good teams.

The old cheer....Show us your numbers/// (scott Hoffman)

TWIS:  Kylie's dad is Shane...when you see him ask him two questions...1)  Did you ever run across the old football field in flip flops?  2)  Who was the brains behind the skunk????   It was a beautiful night.... we only play when the wind is blowing the smell of burgers to the stands.  The JV won.  Babe Ruth pointed and swatted.  Romo pointed, giggled, and swatted.  Michelle in right....????all kinds of action.  The visiting parents kept chanting...Hit it to right, hit to right!  When Michelle was a frosh she started in left field in the state tourney...she caught one running away from the plate at full speed...what a catch!  Heather's swing brought to you in HD! Tiff's knee is still black and blue and orange.  Steve Clay, the ump has a sore knee...but the two cupcakes helped.  The SCF coaches wanted a ladder....(promise to their players) in case they smoked us again.  We did water the field....see the cake?  Don says his birthday is always when we play SCF.  Prom is looming...which means that next week we try and bat with fake nails...never works well.  The field looked great.  The weather was great.  The crowd was great.....Thanks to everyone that helps make this happen... Courtney and hubby are great as announcers.  NO JV VS> UNITY>>>>>>
