Just a reminder that Scott Hoffman takes most of the action shots seen on this web page. He takes the pics, crops them and emails them to me.... all in the same night. He is very, very good at what he does. He has taken some CLASSIC shots. IF you ever need to purchase a high res photo of a pic from the web page, ask Scott. Thanks sooo much!
Here are some Action Shots from Scott.
In preparation for the New Richmond JV game, we sniffed markers!

As we enter the season we have selected Frederic as our main threat to winning the conference. Frederic has some of the best athletes in the conference. They also have a coaching staff filled with experience. Last year we only beat Frederic 4-0 in our last meeting. They have always played well against us. They have good pitching and some outstanding hitters. Look for Frederic to have a very successful season. After watching the game everyone realizes that pitching from 43 feet makes a HUGE difference. Batting averages and runs scored WILL go up. I was impressed with the Frederic catcher Loretti...nice ball player. Frederic also has a few more good softball players. Even though they were asked to field some shots tonight, they made some nice plays.
Michelle picked up the win while allowing only 3 hits and 0 walks. The 0 walks thing is really, really big. She has great control and it is one of her best qualities. Grantsburg did not field well behind her as they committed 2 errors. Grantsburg's bats were amazing..... Tiffany picked up 3 hits in 3 tries including a double to each gap. Michelle picked up 2 hits as did Emily and Romo. The other hits were by Cody, Gabbie, Heather and Sarah. For people watching this game, even Grantsburg's outs were impressive. Chenal is a good fielding pitcher or she would have been clubbed. She knocked down line drives almost each inning. The Grantsburg hitters really put on a show tonight. Last year it was the Pine City game where everything went our way. In 2010 we now have the Frederic game to look back on. With only 1 strikeout for the night the Pirates just put on the pressure.
Each game we have some little reminder printed on the field. This week in practice the JV put together 75 consecutive throws without a screw-up. Placing some pressure on the varsity, the varsity was able to do 76. 77 represents the fact that each of us has to be a little bit better each day. Practice hard, practice full speed. In a game everything happens quickly. There will be a time when each player is asked to represent the team. When it is YOUR turn I hope you come through for us. Be better EVERY day.
New Austrian Tradition: Hang the players in the dugout until they can hit the outside pitch to right field!
Rules stuff: See if you actually know the ruling and what happens..... Bertha swings at the ball and she hits it with her hands. The runner on first was stealing at the time of the pitch. What is the ruling? Betha's baby sis Gertrude bunts in front of the plate. Romo picks up the ball and drills her right between the blades. What is the ruling? The line drive deflects off the base umps shoulder and Tiff catches it in the air. (she dove, of course). What is the call? The throw to first bounces and Annie bobbles the ball and then secures it in her arm pit. So is she out? You bunt the ball and then you drop the bat. The ball rolls and hits the bat which is lying in fair territory!!! Don is wearing blue jeans. (ruling: not allowed on the field...inappropriate attire for coaching!) Moral of the paragraph: Know the rules!! Jessica forgot to take out her earings and the ump sees it. Next inning Sarah's pierced tongue is visible as she screams at the ump. What happens to Sarah?
TWIS: She was late for practice? with who? where? oh my! then there was Kylie..who got drilled at the dentist....She finally got to practice about the time I was on my way home for supper...so I came back...and Kylie practiced. Not her fault that the dentist had a different plan. The Frosh did 75...the varsity finally did 76...counting Gab's questionable backhand. We figured out Don's drill.... eventually. Nice to have the rain...should have picked crawlers... Heather is still feisty. Sam can really throw...and really hit...and really run. Romo will miss New Richmond as she educates Madison. Annie will also miss New Richmond as her college coach wants her to miss our game! Bus leaves at 2:30 and there is a JV game. Sarah and Romo played in the High 5 BB game. They both scored. Dan was worried about them getting hurt... Not me, I have seen Annie get hit in the head. Michael Bearhart hit the SHOT of the Year. Go give him a high 5. He will smile.......a lot. ( for you Grantsburg people a lot is two words.....) Heather is learning big words...just don't ask the definition. Cody and Michelle won the prize for the most colorful socks at practice. Rumors are filtering around that Frederic and Luck are trying to Co-op for softball in future years. Will that Frederic player be back in our Prom pose? Did I really break her mom's finger??? Bus leaves today at 2:30. The entire team traveled to Webster last night for Buddy's visitation. It was good to see Sena and the rest of the family. I hope you got to see the calendar pictures of Buddy...they were cute. Mrs. Hawkins and hubby do a good job announcing and playing the tunes. By now Henry must be 9. Good job baseball team, nice win! We have heard rumors that SCF and Unity have JV teams. Good luck Romo and Mac at state forensics. Good Luck Annie on your college visit. Everyone had better keep their eyes on Sam.... she is the real deal. Saw Ing tonight...and Gretchen. She may be at New Richmond...Last night the Website was down...Jesse fixed it just before midnight...Thanks Jess. Have you checked out the state scores on the homepage?
Tonight the ball looked BIG..even to Lola!
