Grantsburg 5 - Rush City 0

Annie Palmquist's birthday....

Last year our Rush City game was called off.  Last year we still had piles of snow.  It has been nice so far to play our first games outside.  The weather has been grand.  We actually practiced outside last night and accomplished quite a bit.  We were happy to win the game against Barron but we had quite a few issues to address... So we sat them down and went through some ways to improve.  I think Lauren thought it went on too long...but there was a lot to cover.

Wednesday's practice went quite well.  Everybody got in lots of swings but not against live pitching.  We also got in a good round of infield and outfield.  We covered some special situations and discovered that we have a couple of players that DO NOT SLIDE WELL.  I guess it is our job to fix that.  In our little competition, the runners stealing bases beat the three catchers.  Then when we attempted to steal third the catchers won.  And in a moment of brilliance, one of the players remarked...."is that why we don't steal third very often?"  Let there be light!  It was also a good night to practice popups...windy with a blue sky.  During the night we also got into some dive and catch drills as well as catch the ball near the fence drill.  Heather's quad seemed better so we will see.  During our throwing drills it took quite awhile to figure out the rotation but they eventually got it.  Two years ago Miranda broke her thumb on a head first slide into third.  Last year, during the sectionals, Sasha took quite a beating.  This year we will make sure that we have two catchers with lots of experience.

Now we are not too far from the JoJo era. We think it could be a Liz reincarnation.  Isn't it funny that they both throw sidearm?  Liz pulled the ball...even more than Romo.  She also was the starting catcher for four years and did a great job.  Liz never made a video jumping in to frozen Little Wood Lake.

And now for the game.....Rush City has come a long way in the last few years. I would call them a good team.  They made lots of plays.  There coaching staff and players all seemed very enthused. Both Barron and Rush City were pretty solid teams.  They made lots of plays and put the ball into play. For the first two innings the game remained scoreless.  RC did pick up a hit in the first while Grantsburg picked up three hits and a walk without scoring.

Grantsburg did get its first run in the third.  With two out, Birthday Annie hit one to right center. It was hit on a rope and even though the center fielder got a piece of it, the home scorer gave her a double.  Heather was the next batter and singled her in for the lead.  In the Grantsburg 4th Nicole was the lead off batter hitting for Emily.  Even though she struck out, the ball went to the back stop and she was safe at first. It is good to have Ing back swinging the bat.  She picked up her second hit in as many tries.  Tiff came to the plate next and singled bringing in one of the runs.  Sarah also singled and brought in two more.  So the score after four innings was 5-0.  It stayed that way.

Rush City picked up only three hits on the night and received one walk.  Grantsburg got its five runs on 11 hits and one walk. For Grantsburg, Tiffany had two hits as did limp along Heather.  Ing also picked up two hits.  The remaining hits were by Sarah, Michelle, Annie, Emily and Romo.  Annie got the lone walk.

One of the things we do for fun is make Cody eat things.  We are not sure if it was a June bug or a frozen Wooly Bear caterpillar but Cody is a good sport.  She claims it helps her thumb heal faster.

There were some interesting plays again.  One interesting play was where Sarah held the ball against the runner on third.. She pulled a Jessica and stepped off....OUT!  good thinking Sarah.

TWIS:  Isn't it nice to NOT have sandflys?  Scott found some HUGE speakers by the road.  He was going to put them into the back of my truck but it was full.  No official practice Friday.  I think some people may show up anyway... Monday's practice is at 3:45.  It sounds like the weather continues to be nice.  The player was Lindy Bakeberg (Cave). Does the baseball team still like the grass infield for games in April? or is that a summer thing?  For you new readers, you are not supposed to understand everything in TWIS... so don't worry.  Like where is the pontoon?  grassy area on the left??  Yes, this webpage is kind of a hobby.  I do most of it at home...my kids all moved out.  New flags on the foul poles.  No, all the players do not have their own helmets.  Deb watched the finish of the last game from the picnic table????  The new grill seems to work well.  Haven't been to my thinking tree for awhile... "Good Lord"   Sue says they look like giant watermelons.  Nice to see Melissa...and her mom.  Hi to Sasha...who we think is on the road.  Happy Birthday Annie!  Heather is healing.  Jess came late. EC's foot stood still.  ING is back!!  Did Sarah really push her off third?  Annie get your gun...then go catch the pop up.  The ump warned Tiff about her bobbie pins.... We had these umps in the state tournament.  We were thinking Judge Judy was going to show.  One more time..Happy Birthday Annie.  Now go chase some pop ups.  We realized that we have NEVER practiced throwing it around the horn after an out. The smoke from the hamburgers killed me..I gave in.  Satin said good job.  Have you ever looked at Romo's fingers?  I gave the RC team a softie by mistake.  He politely asked me if Wisconsin had different rules... Then I realized my mistake...oops.  The main bathrooms are not open.  No sand flys still....nice.   Do you think a shorter stock will help? Just like old times.gg  Lola is a poop.  My Algebra class is pretty loyal.  Did anybody hear them cheer?  No assignment for them Tuesday. (no school Mon)  It is nice to see nice crowds.  The players took my ipod cord but by next game I will have it back...and there will be tunes....not the player tunes, but easy listening tunes.  Our circus drill has a way to go.  Don pitched over hand tonight.  Emily had her front foot nailed down.  Ing improved her body lean.  Little Tiff...the player who dates big guys...swings a big bat.  Happy Easter.  I will be at school in the morning doing stuff...so...........I hope everyone enjoyed the moon set this morning and the full moon rise tonight.  It was awesome.  There is no other beauty that compares with nature...SE stood for Score Early.
