Grantsburg Edges the Cards...It was a real game....

Run Romo, Run.... by Scott Hoffman

Happy Graduation Ingrid Aimes... I am reallllly happy for you.  And even though the rest of the conference isn't happy, I am happy that you are Grantsburg's only Senior Softball Player

Lookout 2010

As you maybe noticed, the softball webpage has been unavailable.  The server crashed sometime early Wednesday.  The local tech guys have been working long hours to get it back and functioning.  So sorry about not getting you the information.  And for me, I needed to share stories…but there wasn’t anybody.   I would tell Lola but she didn't care. But, we are back in business.  This will be the Reader’s Digest Condensed Version since Jesse saved the old server.  For starters, you had better go back and read the Unity game....

No Picture of Cody today..just the 4 leaf clover she found...

just before SHE GAVE ME SOME STRONG ADVICE AT FIRST BASE

LUCK:  Luck was missing some players the first time we played.  They are currently on a roll.  At their own tournament, they won all three games.  Thursday night they played exceptionally well on defense and gave us MORE than we wanted.  I would say that we played fine.  They played great.  It really was a good fastpitch game.  Congratulations to Luck and we hope you do well in the tournament.  With Frederic and Luck both in division 4, they have a chance to give the West Lakeland bragging rights.

The players spent toooo much time looking for birds for Berg's class...

and it was only another Teanage Mutant Ninja Whippoorwhill

Finally….. a real game summary

Grantsburg batted first and only batted three players.  Luck came to bat in the bottom of the inning and Jenssen picked up the first hit of the game but was stranded at second base.  The inning went quickly.

Annie started the second with another laser liner that hit the center field fence near the base or just in front of the fence.  She cruised into second with a double.  After Emily and Heather walked, the bases were loaded with no outs.  After a strikeout by the Pirates, Cody battled a full count into a walk and the first RBI of the game.  Luck pitched its way out of the inning limiting Grantsburg to just the single run.  Michelle started to mow ‘em down.  For the next several innings, Luck did not threaten.  Grantsburg continued to have baserunners but Luck was up to the challenge

After a quiet third, the Pirates found some action in the 4th.  Heather lined one off the pitcher for a single.  Ingrid followed with another line drive single to left.  Cody bunted and was thrown out at first but advanced both runners with a sacrifice.  With Two outs, Romo hit a towering drive to left.  Luck caught it at the fence and the Pirates were scoreless....and the Cards were Lucky!

Tiff started the fifth win a single to right.  As the Luck right fielder misplayed the ball, Tiffany took second.  As the errant throw went passed the bag at second, she took third.  With nobody out, a squeeze was called.  Sarah bunted the ball fair, but Luck made the perfect play to get Tiff at the plate.  Michelle reached on a fielder’s choice as Sarah was thrown out at second for out number 2. Following a wild pitch, Michelle took second.  On the next pitch, Annie picked up her second hit of the night and scored Michelle.  It was now 2-0.

To start the 6th Ing bunt singled down the third base line and then stole second base.  Nicole came up as a pinch hitter and hit a solid single to center scoring Ing.  Romo came back in the game running for Nicole.  On a passed ball situation, she was thrown out at the plate by another good Luck defensive play.

Luck came up to bat in the bottom of the 7th trailing by three runs.  Michelle struck out Lehman for the first out.  Jenssen then hit the gap in right for a double.  Pilz struckout but reached first base on an error.  With runners on first and third we threw to third but it went passed Sarah scoring the first run for Luck.  The next batter walked.  There were soon runners on first and third again.  The runner on first was the tying run.  The runner at first took off.  Romo ripped a throw to second and got her out.  It was a HUGE play for Grantsburg.  The next batter hit a slow roller back to Michelle and the game was over.  It was a close game.

For the game Grantsburg had 8 hits and collected 4 walks.  They were also thrown out twice at the plate.  Luck ended with only two hits and one walk.  Grantsburg had played quite solid while Luck had played perhaps their best game.  Grantsburg did only score 3 runs so it was VERY important that Michelle held their bats in check.  She has done that all year.  The pitcher gives the team a chance to win….. Tonight, 3 was good enough.

The players wanted the ump to hammer 3rd base with MY bat!!!!!!!

There is this magic switch that each athlete must have.  The switch turns on the game face and the required focus.  It was not turned on tonight for many players.  We will talk to them about simple things like….run to your position, etc.  There is a fine line between having fun and playing focused.  Tonight, we were a bit off…. All of us including me.

Next Tuesday is the last game of the regular season.  It is a home game against St. Croix Falls.  On Thursday we will have a bye as the tournament begins.  It looks like we will probably play Cumberland the following Tuesday.  The winner of our game will probably play the winner of Glenwood and St. Croix Central…. And so the second season is about to start.

And….to the delight of the coaching staff…. We went to the bus and discovered that someone had been downtown to “HogWild.”  The coaches had a full rack of ribs ready for the bus ride home.  At this point, we do not know who was responsible, but it made us feel VERY special.  Thank you sooooo much.  I will find out.gg

It was another first in our softball careers.

TWIS:  Great Cake Emily…thanks.  And I can just barely believe that Buddy and Sena left the game to go buy chickens... they are probably too expensive... Buy Swine!  Hope buddy didn’t nod off as the bidding started.  Did you see Greg brought the chute?  Why was centerfield sprayed?  No dandelions.  Cody found a 4 leaf clover…. She also had some advice as she ran by be on first base.  I had to look up some of the words.  The Ribs were sooooo good.  Ing was pumped all day.  Last day of highschool, 2 hits, 20th win, and ribs…to go with birthday cake.  Did you know that Callie is pregnant?  And the players tried to use my warm up bat to fix third base!!!  I can’t believe it..then the ump wouldn’t give it to me….Romo wrecked third in the first place.  I tried to hit the umps during warm-up but missed.. almost hit Penny, though.  Did you know that Tiffany can talk 120 mph?  Mich is ALWAYS the first person out of the dugout. Romo just missed on the homerun.  Ing almost caught one by the second fence.  The umps called the high strike on us… Mich watched and returned the favor.  Annie went to the orange base just like she was supposed to do.  Gabbie sold her k-mart glove.  The outfield had metal posts… We don’t think that is legal anymore!! Congrats seniors.  This marks a milepost in your life.  It is certainly not the end, but the beginning.  So go ahead and get started.  Sorry this is soooo short.. But I am happy to be BACK online...  Graduation was Grand.  Molly Bjelland's team is off to the College World Series...way to go Mollie!!!  You dude good!  again, and again.... Let the eagles fly.....and let one land every now and then.gg  Fay is ready to ride!  I can't believe I wore a dandelion!  Elise skyped from Sydney.  Now we will go back to practice......and the intensity will start to increase....  It is time to focus on CUMBERLAND!  Check out the t-bone on the cake... and ZEM is what it also says on my phone!
