Grantsburg comes through in Bottom of the 7th.

Typically I add at turkey sound at this point.  But I have used it too much lately.  On Monday night we had seven of our players gone to another music thing.  Someday we may take our players out of music and make them practice softball.  Students are very, very busy in the spring.  Everybody wants their time.  We all try and balance things out as best we can.   Last Saturday, after arriving home at almost 2:00 in the morning, some of our kids had to go take the ACT test.  With just a couple of hours sleeep I am sure that they had a hard time just spelling ACT let alone remembering their names.  But, we all trudge ahead doing the best that we can.  As long as we have brats we will be just fine.

The boys had the baseball game called off last night.  I think somebody called it off for them.  Since we have late practice this week, we decided to practice outside.  The weather was sunny but kind of cold.  With only seven players at practice we accomplished what we could...which was not much.

And now a blast from the past.  Can you name this Grantsburg Player that eventually learned how to slide?  She was awesome...and had great stories...

Don is looking much younger since his knee surgery.  We tried to convince Don that he should ask the surgeon about bringing home the bones for his precious dogs but the surgeon said no.  I guess it wouldn't look good to have the bones around the front door.  He settled for venison bones...they are harder.  Actually, Don is healing very well.  He pitched some whiffle balls at the dome.

OK...now listen...Satin's mom won't email....yet she may read this.  I am going home...I plan on eating...then I will go vote... Then I will come back and tell you all of the sometimes wonderful but often gory details.......so back around 10:00...you guys don't study anyway!!!!  I have much to write about...much good...and about 2000 coaching tips...but mostly...I am proud.

OK...it is 9:00 I had supper, I voted, I visited my mom on her birthday, and now I am back reliving the game.  Rich and Gerald spent part of the day preparing the field.  It looked great.  The limer didn't work well so I tied a wire through the missing sheer pin hole and off we went.  Mike had already sprayed the lines earlier in the day.  Buddy and Sena arrived so we were ready to play.

For starters I would like to compliment Barron on their game.  They were great sports and talented players.  They made almost all the plays and put the ball into play themselves.  It was a very close game and either team could have won.  Barron was good.

The game started with Barron hitting a little pop up and we botched it.  They placed a perfect sacrifice and with two outs singled home the first run of the game.  1-0 Barron.   Grantsburg came to bat and Tiffany laced a single to left and advanced when Sarah placed a perfect sacrifice bunt herself.  But we couldn't get the hit to tie the game and the first inning was over.

Barron again singled in the second, sacrificed her to second but left her stranded. Heather was first up for Grantsburg...Now she had pulled a muscle in PE class today and was in much discomfort.  She singled and was replaced by Jessica Hoffman.  After a couple of wild pitches she stood at third.  After Cody's walk, Finchy hit a grounder to short but they threw out the runner at the plate.  Tiff came to the plate and picked up her second single of the night and scored EC.  The game was now tied 1-1. Both pitchers controlled the game for the next few innings. In the 6th Grantsburg would commit 2 errors and a wildpitch allowing Barron to score two runs.  It was not looking good for the Pirates.

Jessica was now back in for Grantsburg and hit the gap with a nice shot.  BUT...she decided not to slide into second and lifted her foot as she tried to balance herself so the early threat was gone.

Which brings us to the very wild 7th inning.  Cody's sore thumb was better... the new bat hurt, too so she went back to old Faithful and quickly lined a single to center.  Ing hit a realllllly high pop up just over the second baseman's head... There was not much Cody could do but watch...and when she booted the ball the race was on to second...CODY won....(nice speed)  WE now had runners on first and second with nobody out.  Tiffany picked up her third hit of the night down the first base line.  As she approached second, she quickly realized that all the other runners decided to stand and cheer rather than run... So Cody stood on third...Ing decided she may as well go half way to third since Tiff was almost on second....  Then the dust and furr started to fly.  When all had settled, Cody scored.  Ing was safe at second...Tiff was back at first wondering why nobody else had run.  Sarah then executed a perfect bunt placing the tying run at third and the winning run at second.  Michelle stepped into the box and quickly hit one up the middle scoring both runners and ending the game....I am not sure anybody else knew the game was over.... but they came through....they didn't give up...

The Sac bunt placed both runners in scoring position.

Sarah's dad was soo excited that he hand cuffed himself to the fence!

Jessica will spend allllll day Wednesday sliding into second.

The game ended quickly......

TWIS:  This is the only part the Lindy reads...and perhaps Pine tree lady..although she wouldn't admit it. The music department robbed our practice again on Monday.  We had a grand time in the cold and wind. Tiffany has new contacts...then she picked up three hits!  go figure!  She also has a hippy head band.  Lydia sent me a message on the printer...I moved from 171.  I used to be in room 171.  When people in our building would dial 1-715 and forget to dial 9...my room would ring.  I used to make up stuff.  Thanks for singing, Lydia.  Perhaps next time you could tape record yourself and sing harmony....  Doesn't Tiff seem a long ways away when she plays second? Sarah had two nice bunts.  Her dad picked up the bus for speeding. Now we have to find Sarah a glove where all the fingers face the back.  Mich had one part of the game where she struck out 6 in a row.  Have you ever noticed that Annie thinks too much.  She was also waiting on deck when Mich hit in the winning run.  She was hoping for a tie game so she could bat...but...she will take the win.  Peter and Mary used to write in the sand.  Heather was realllllly hurting.  On her second hit she hit it all the way to the right fence...As she stood by me on first, I asked her...Do you think you could handle jogging to second?  She said OK and then left.  EC need her front foot nailed down..as does Finchy.  Cody's hand is black and partly blue but she can reallly hit.  Way to start the rally.  8:03 and the phone never rings anymore.  Ing lost my ipod cord...and her phone....but she still is tough to catch in the hotbox.  Who will visit me at summer school?  Penny C signed up for the first game concession stand assuming it would be called off..too bad!!!  WE have enough stuff to practice for about three months.  Did you like the new wind fence?  I see at least one car parked in right to watch.  So Jolene hit me....and everybody thought it was funny.  I will put a really cool pic of Mollie on the page Wednesday. (see below) Jamie is playing college ball again this year.  Satin sent a text congratulating the team.  and then there was the old team canoe trip...1 canoe???  My patience is improving. When Barron was scoring, we tried to hit the ump with the ball.  He didn't catch it.  Elise is in New Zealand for two months.   more tomorrow...I am tired.
