Friendly_tiger.gif - (8K)Webster Celebrates!

So you ask....What are they celebrating?  Well, they are celebrating two things... Thing 1)  During the regular season, they don't have to play Grantsburg again.  Thing 2) They don't have to play Grantsburg in the tournament either...unless they win a couple of games.  Let's face it...Webster didn't see us coming...We think it was because of the camo.//  Anyway..here are the pics..I am going to dig dirt, fix the bathroom floor, have supper, then write the newsletter...Have a good night.. and tomorrow is BLAZE ORANGE

To the untrained eye, it didn't look like many people were at the game.  It also didn't seem like Grantsburg had any runners in the first couple of innings but you just didn't see them.  But in the third inning, the Pirates snuck up on the Tigers and bagged not only some big cats but a guaranteed part of a conference championship.  Even if Frederic and Luck beat us, we will still be tied for first place.  So Grantsburg has secured its first goal.... the Conference Championship.

Are you finding this hard to read?

Believe it or not the seeding meeting for the tournament has already taken place.  Grantsburg is the number one seed and if we keep winning, the first three games will be at our place.  Cumberland is the 2 seed with SCF getting the number 3.  Our first game will be against Turtle Lake, the 8 seed.

Webster is an improved team and under Coach Hoefs, they have played some very good ball, lately.  In a recent game, they were ahead of SCF near the end then only lost by one run.  Tonight, they got off to a brilliant start and many people were a little stunned.  But games last 7 innings or more, and the law of averages and large numbers usually wins.  But on this Monday night, the Tigers struck out three Pirates in the first inning.  I don't think that had ever been done before.

Grantsburg scored its first run in the second inning following Jamie's walk.  After advancing to second on a wild pitch, she scored on Alyssa's single up the middle.  Alyssa has the reputation of being an aggressive runner.  Last night she forgot that she wasn't wearing camo and tried to sneak into third...they saw her.

Life returned to normal in the third inning and people started buying brats and pop.  It all started when katie walked.  Eventually Miranda singled, Shelby walked, and Sarah was hit by a pitch.  Jamie and Lindsey reached on singles and Alyssa by an error.  Katie came back to the plate and doubled to the gap and then Webster's pitching took a break.  The Pirates then received six consecutive walks.  So after three innings, the Pirates had an insurmountable 12-0 lead.

When Grantsburg batted eight consecutive pinch hitters in the 4th, things didn't change much.  The younger players looked good....even though their base running techniques were lacking, the bats were good.  Sasha started with a nice hit up the middle.  Holly walked.  Lauren picked up a solid hit making it two in a row for Lauren.  Emily and Amanda went back to back with singles and Ashley was hit by a pitch....  She is getting the same reputation as "Coach" from Cheers...Oh wait...old show.  When the dust settled.... Grantsburg walked away with a 16-0 win.

We are working on this issue still..... But, the white knuckle game type pressure has not happened this year.  It will happen soon.  The thing that makes us ok with the season is that most of these kids have already played in about 10 sectional games and 3 state tournaments.  So we know that these kids have that extra notch.  Grantsburg is blessed with great athletes that are also great kids... Stop and tell them sometime... Don't take their talents for Granted.  They are really something.. They are fun to watch and fun to be with... Talking to some other schools, it is not always that way...  We really have quite a run of athletes....and super people....

With the tournament coming up Saturday, the soccer league has made a new rule... DONT LEAVE the soccer game to go watch the fun sports.  Even though your kid doesn't have any hand skills, stay and supervise.  Bring binoculars so you can watch from a distant or listen to Dan on the radio...He will make a comment about you... If you wear camo, you can maybe sneak over for a few innings... and of course, brats are always half price if you bring your little brats over between games.

TWIS:  Did you see ALyssa jump on the pitch that almost hit her?  She could see right over the top of the plate and gaze into the visitor's dugout.  Katie pulled a ball soooo foul that it hit the first base fence....think about it!!!  The third inning was sooooo long that we had two players graduate.  Everybody warmed up with their camo and soon found out why you wear it when it is 30 degrees.  But, you couldn't see the sweat.  It was fun to see the fans wearing camo, too... and the national anthem women thought somebody was missing...but Lydia was wearing it, too.  Judge Judy was pretty cool tonight... she told Don to keep his big toes in the dugout.  Don asked..What about Steve? she replied...he is legal.... You have to know how to live on the edge.  did you see that some of Webster's fans were wearing camo, too...  Did they read this page, or did they not want to be seen?  Thanks Mike for announcing...Pete was stuck on top of some power pole.  We need to work on our music...shoud we play the Turdy point buck tonight???  Why does Michelle's mom always hide under the blanket?  As we approach the tourney, it is fun to see new people coming to the game...what do you think about box seats placed above each dugout???  What do you think if we have Pirate flags for the foul poles?  What do you think if we had sound effects for every swing???

Thanks again to Rich and Jerry and those guys that make our field look like a park... It is a great place to play... You make us proud... thanks.

Good lookin camo
