Grantsburg Graduates to Round 3

Wins 20th Game...

SCC Bites the Dust 10-0 in Five.  Prepare for SCF one last time.

I drove by St. Croix Grill on the way to the St. Croix River.  I stopped at the St. Croix Interpretive Center and watched the St. Croix flow towards St. Croix Falls. (the team we are not playing) It seemed like St. Croix Central. (the team that we are going to play) St. Croix Central has become a central part of our athletic program.  Last year we played St. Croix Central just before we played St. Croix Falls in the softball tournament.  Last Fall, we played St. Croix Falls at St. Croix Central during the volleyball tournament.  Last winter we wanted to play St. Croix Falls again in basketball, but we ended up playing St. Croix Central at Central.   So central to this evening is the fact that we played St. Croix Central one more time.  And for you people that are confused again.....SCC is in Hammond, which is close to Roberts..Actually, the school is Central to both communities... Go figure!

The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheeps sick! (anybody can say it silently...so belt it out loud...test yourself)

And by the way.....We are looking for somebody that has film on Prescott, Elkmound, Chippewa Falls, etc...So if you are a foreigner that also reads this stuff...let me know...Just in case we are lucky enough to get to the sectionals, we would like a look at the competition.  Or if anybody wants to go scouting, let us know.

We watered the field after the guys prepared it perfectly. The wind was blowing out..no gnats.. a really nice night for a game. And SCC arrived.  During the regional tournament, the highest seeded team is automatically the home team.  But we pretended like we won the flip anyway.  It makes us feel like we are already ahead.  SCC came to the plate and Mollie mowed 'em down three in a row.  Grantsburg came to bat in the bottom of the inning.  Mollie walked.  Whitney placed down a bunt and soon there were runners on first and third with one out.  When Miranda grounded to third, Mollie scored giving Grantsburg the lead.  MiShelby walked and moved into scoring position after stealing second.  With Whit on third and MiShelby on second, Jamie came through with a base hit up the middle scoring both of them.  Grantsburg 3 - SCC 0.

Nobody scored in the second inning, although Grantsburg had two runners in scoring position.

Grantsburg kept the pressure on in the third inning and SCC started to collapse. (BOA style) Miranda, with a mildly adjusted grip, ripped one to the pastures beyond the fence.  Katie made sure that Miranda touched the plate... It is a new thing... The Pirates now have six out of the park homeruns for the year.  If we didn't play in big parks like Yellowstone and Glacier, we would have at least six more.  Come on local towns, get fastpitch fields...Don't do everything just for the boys....Title IX ...some of the towns are still on Title II.  Shelby used to watch Coach on the old TV show Cheers.  She didn't stick out her head but she batted one down with her rib cage to reach first.  Jamie, Sarah, Lindsey, and Alyssa hit consecutive singles as the show started to heat up.  Miranda eventually batted again in the inning and picked up her second hit of the night and the inning.  When the dust had settled and the hotdogs had run out, the score was 10-0 after three innings.

It wasn't until the 5th inning that SCC picked up a hit to center.  But Miranda gunned her out at second as Whit dove to take the throw and made a great tag.  When the next hitter grounded to short, SCC ended the night with only 15 batters and a near perfect game for Mollie and the Pirates.  Miranda had picked up four RBI's on the night to go with her homerun. For those of you that have followed softball for years, this team has the ability to score anywhere in the lineup.  We don't get caught in a bad inning.  Each one steps up and takes her turn to add to the offense.  And the defense makes plays, too.

Grantsburg plays next this Thursday night at home.  The game will start at 5:00 and it will be a match up with St. Croix Falls which beat Cumberland 3-2.  Bring your umbrella because THERE WILL BE THUNDER.

TWIS:  Hey Donna, here is a secret code for you.. (HD!)  If you can't get it, ask Craig.  We warmed up at 4:20 just in case you missed us...and of course, we played our theme song.  Graduation was sweet.  Congrats to Whitney, Katie, Mishelby, and Sarah. You all looked great and sounded great.  Good luck in the next stage of your life... Always remember your last chapters with respect but anxiously create new stories.  Bart drilled Sarah right in the butt.  Macy chases for Bart.  And Mikey...nice autographed softball....Did you buy it?  Virginia is serious....She wants the covered box seats on the top of our dugout... I can see it now...Level 2....heaters by the feet, shelter over the top, clear view of the field...hot dogs, brats and hot chocolate delivered after each inning.  Video Ipods with radio to listen to Dan's broadcasts.... Instant replay equipment to show the play again....and of course, a fire pole to quickly exit when the concession stand has a sale.  Hello to Emil Brown and Rap....famous fastpitch players from a few years ago...(SCC guys)  I watched Don talk at the conference meeting the other night...all of the other coaches just listened...and took notes.  They didn't say it was a secret, but Coach Hutton from Frederic is retiring from coaching... He was the person that brought fastpitch to life in Frederic.  Coach Hanson from SCF is retiring...She is an excellent coach and has another excellent team.  Lakeland softball will miss them.  Good Luck to the Bruce softball team... We hope they smoke Hurley...and..nobody feels too badly that Regis was beaten in the first round.. Northwood won their conference.  Congrats to Beth and her team....To Mark and Cheryl Smith, nice career in Grantsburg...You influenced a lot of people...Thank you.  Welcome Back Merlin.... Jeanine, I can't find the song.  It was one of the worst warm-ups of the year for our team tonight, but they played really well.  Hurley did beat Bruce...CFM advanced. Did you almost miss the SCC double play when Amanda was batting?  The ump also called a fairly small plate.  Thanks to all the fans that have been supporting our team.  The athletes appreciated your attendance. When you get time, go down to the pics on the bottom.  We spend lots of time together in the dugout...so today... we were doing happy faces, perplexed faces, sad faces and mad faces... see if you can tell the difference.  I am going out for breakfast now... my computer is broken and I had to come to school early...  I am after doughnuts with whipped cream...a small weakness....EF Hutton and Miranda...when they bat, people listen!  (old commercial...young pups won't get it.)

Have a good day everybody...Talk softball.  Enjoy these athletes.  Enjoy the day.  Make somebody smile.
