Northwood is Left Scratching Their Heads....25-0

The bus left at three and we headed north toward Riverside (one word) and that famous stopping place Dairyland. We scouted out Macs as we passed through Spooner and then headed north on 53 listening to Marc Cohn on our mp3 players. For the last two years Northwoods has avoided playing us. They have special prayer meetings where moms, dads, and grandparents get together and pray for rain. But this year it didn't work. They were forced to play us and Grantsburg scored three years worth of runs in one night. Now everyone knows that evergreens and pines are magical so when the players dreams started to come true tonight...nobody was surprised. Nobody is really too interested in how each inning went so I will give you the Reader's Digest Condensed version and then highlight some of the plays. By the fifth inning we had played every player dressed for the game and we couldn't figure out where they belonged...Almost every player got to bat at least twice in the five innings.. But after some head scratching they all found their Home. My credit goes to Northwood because they kept playing and the coaches kept coaching... Some teams would have given up but that is not their style. Sometimes everything you do goes right.. That is really fun for the team where things are working and it is a rough night for the other team. When you play softball, you will get some of both. So enjoy the evening when everything goes your way and disregard the night when everything goes wrong.
GAME SUMMARY
Grantsburg: HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,WWW,RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Northwood: H
Let's take a journey down the path of our batting lineup. Katie was wishing she could pitch again but did go 2 for 3 and scored three runs. Ashley, the most improved player on the team came in and went 2 for 2 including a first pitch triple to right center with the bases loaded. Mollie continued on a batting terror going 3 for 3 and scoring 4 runs. She smashed two triples. Miranda went 2 for 3 before giving her batting spot to Melissa. Big dog Alyssa finally got to bat... With sore thumb, sore ankle and a battered eye from the whiffle ball, she launched a double over the left fielder's head and followed that with a second hit for the night. Shelby, Jamie and Sarah all went 3 for 5 for a very strong showing. It is good to see them spraying the ball all over the field. Lauren also picked up a base hit. Michelle made a diving catch in the outfield to save a base hit but Mollie dominated the Northwood batters. It wasn't until two out in the last of the 5th that Northwood managed a base hit for the first runner of the night. Grantsburg had collected 25 runs on 21 hits. Northwood threw strikes and the Pirates hit them fair. Northwood considered pulling the catcher and playing a 4th outfielder because the ball never got past the plate.
TWIS: Macs was full, we went to DQ then Holiday. How can Alyssa bat with 9 fingers? We couldn't figure out why Michelle kept falling over in warm -ups...we thought she had mad cow disease. There were major dust storms during the game..all the dirt went into their dugout. Got Dirt? The umps liked us. We had sooooo many players in the game that we almost didn't figure out where they should play in the last inning. I think Northwood was stunned. I saw SCC people this weekend and they are hoping to meet Grantsburg in the sectionals. Let's hope we both get that far. We are lucky that Miranda hasn't killed a third baseman, yet. good going, Sasha. RC has a JV for Friday night. The game will happen during the varsity game on the east field. For those of you that can't tell directions, go to the field where the teams are warming up. We are guessing Luck finishes second in the conference. The season is almost half over. Melissa's ankle is improving. Jamie gets the start vs. Webster. The Northwood assistant is back. Webster has another new coach this year. So let's roar into Webster and kick some Tiger butt. I am a little short on pictures tonight. I was TOO BUSY coloring in little squares. This multi-tasking stuff has to slow down...
