Grantsburg Blowsssss by Luck 11-0
Luck just knocked off SCF the other night. Luck just got the number 1 seeding in their division 4 tournament. Luck is having a good year and has played some wonderful softball. The Cardinals always offer good softball skills. So for this final game of the conference season we visited the Duncan YoYo capital of the world. And in breaking news....(joke ahead) Did you hear the Pope may have the bird flu? They think he got it from a couple of cardinals.
We had a good Wednesday practice. All of the throwing drills were crisp and successful. The warm-ups were warming. The infield and outfield sessions were right on target. It was a successful practice. Bart came in with Ricky to catch and they pitched for an hour... Our girls got a taste of the Cushing heat... And Ricky got sore legs. We turned the pitching machine upside down and practiced hitting drop balls...just in case we ever get as far as Chippewa Falls. Then Callie brought in root beer floats... so a good time was had by all. This team knows how to play hard and how to play hard...(difference intended) It is like they have this off and on switch. When they decide to hit the on button, LOOK OUT>
So Grantsburg hit the button hard and often tonight. Eleven runs in five innings was an impressive outing for the Pirates. This wraps up the conference season where Grantsburg has just gone undefeated.... Congratulations Pirate Team..You are Awesome!!!
Now this Grantsburg team is very, very good. BUT...without thinking too hard, I came up with at least five plays where we looked bad. We have to eliminate those plays. There is huge room for improvement. A game consists of many, many plays and the idea is to focus each time and eliminate the mistake. Soon the game will be determined by one of those plays. You can fly through the season and you never know when it will end. (click)
It is always cold when we play at Luck and tonight was no exception. The wind and rain comes off the lake in full force and the visiting team starts to sing the winds of November come early song. Grantsburg picked up one run in the first after Whitney walked. Miranda hit somewhere between a flyball and a pop-up to left center. The outfielders had been playing exceptionally deep so when nobody caught it Whitney scored. Running hard on two outs has been one area where we have done POORLY.
Mollie is the best cold weather pitcher around. When it is cold, she is hot. When others are shaking and shivering in the batter's box, Mollie is heating it up. Mollie retired the side in a row to get the game going. But Grantsburg failed to score in the second inning.
Life started to return to normal in the third. With one out, Katie singled as did Mollie. Whitney walked again. Using more hits by Sasha and Sarah, Grantsburg was able to color in four more runs. It was almost the same scenario in the fourth. With one out, Katie walked. When Mollie's line drive to left center found the gap she had collected an in the park homer and both scored. Using hits by Shelby and a smash by Lindsey, the runs kept coming. After four the game was secure with Grantsburg leading 10-0. Holly and Dan had been text messaging all game. Dan was doing the Frederic game on the radio and wanted updates... Thanks for the free messaging package...
The game ended after five innings with a final score of 11-0. Luck had only two base runners and didn't get much time to spend in their dugout during the game. Mollie struck out five and the Pirates made good plays in the field. Grantsburg scored their runs on 8 hits and four walks. We looked good.
Don't forget that Saturday is Western or Country or "Bring your horse day!"
Congratulations to Melanie and her Frederic team for knocking off Webster.
I am going home for supper and warmth..I will write this later tonight..so come back tomorrow.....hey..good morning....I'm back...
TWIS: Did you see the little Durands on the way? Ask Dawn! The JV ump fell over and lost his pants. Sasha told me to GO AWAY. Nice hit, Sasha. The math team came home from Superior just in time for the bus. They won, too... Congrats. Gas prices jumped... I waited until they were 2.91 to buy.. They are 2.99 in South Bend... Where are the elk? Barb and Marty were very welcoming to us...they placed a tarp on our dug out and asked if we wanted any brats. We had the strings upside down for a bit...I think it was a child proof tarp. Brook pitched a good game for Luck. She is one of the top pitchers in the area. Her father Brian, pitched on my fastpitch team for about 72 years... He was awesome.. Eddie Feigner told him that he threw too many strikes.... Eddie said if you always throw strikes, the good hitters will get you. VERY important to nibble...with two strikes..especially if you have the control of Mollie and Jamie.. Amanda pitched batting practice...ever since Cumberland..she wants more time. Shelby brought cookies on the bus..Thanks Tony for making them. THOSE TREATS ARE SURE NICE>>>>> 6 home games in a row...wow. #2 in state doesn't mean much..but it is fun to be noticed. Think Chippewa...Think Goodman. Next team goal is Regional Champ. Cumberland returns at 10:00 Winny the Pooh should be gone. Don has never heard of Blustery Day... He needs to get out more. Katie and Whitney get to play in the senior all-star game..congrats again. Miranda hurt her arm when she collided with the catcher... Even though both crashed and burned the umps didn't see it..or Miranda would have been out. The ump called Katie safe and she was 3 feet from the base...reputation, I guess. Alyssa will be a fire plug when she grows up. Virginia can now name all her grand kids. I suggest fans buy turkey blinds, paint them purple, and bring them to away games. The picture sequence below is Miranda humbly walking to the Luck dugout...asking to borrow catcher stuff. We forgot ours...oops. Thanks to all of you fans that actually came to the game..It warms us...Enjoy each game. Each game is the one that is most important...The season will end sooner or later so make sure the next game is best one for you....So we alllll went fishing on the lake... It is my favorite little movie...Now go back and click it.
