Grantsburg Knocks off Clear Lake 4-0

This year is kind of a year of uncertainty.  Each game we play has had some kind of changes.  Tonight, we did know about the time change.  They did inform us that the JV innings would happen after the varsity game.  We didn't know that the field had been changed but as always...we eventually got things rolling.  Mollie's pitching and Grantsburg's defense dominated the game while the bats went into hiding.  With only five hits, the Pirates were able to muster enough runs to win.  But, it was an off night for Grantsburg.

It was very windy and very sunny as we opened play on the new field.  The dugouts looked like they had been through a tornado and the back stop was incorrectly placed but it will make for a very nice softball field.  The left side of the defense will hope that they don't have to play in very sunny situations but the batter will never have to look into the sun.  Clear lake has some nice players and did many nice things tonight.  Their shortstop Sulvold was one of their good players and she started the game with a walk and stole second.  Mollie then gritted her teeth and struck out the next three batters.

For Grantsburg it was a terrible night of pop ups and fly balls.  We have many theories why this happened and hope to remedy it soon.  Katie started the game with a pop up to left.  Mollie bunted.  When the first baseman dropped the ball she was safe at first and then stole second.  Whitney popped up.  Mollie reached third on an error and then as she ran home the catcher dropped the ball and Grantsburg was on the board.

Clear lake was not able to muster an offense for the entire game.  Clear Lake only managed one hit and received two walks.  Shelby had some nice plays at thrid and Sarah threw out a runner at second following an overthrow to first.  Sarah has done this three times this year. It has almost become a play for us.

Grantsburg didn't score again until the 4th inning.  Mollie walked.  Whitney popped to third.  Miranda walked.  Lindsey hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring another runner.  The score remained a stubborn 3-0.  Grantsburg would score its last run in the 7th inning.  Amanda laced a line drive double to right center and advanced on a past ball.  When sister Shelby singled, Amanda came home for Grantsburg.  Grantsburg had a terrible night at the plate.  There were very few balls hit hard and toooooo many balls hit into the air.   Katie had a bunt single.  Lindsey picked up a nice hit to left.  The other three hits were by the Durand family with Shelby getting two of them.  Clear lake threw strikes and Grantsburg was not able to hit the ball hard.  One of the easy things to do it to try and pull the ball.  When you pull the ball on every pitch, you have a tendency to hit the ball on the end of the bat or you reach for the ball.  We will work hard on trying to hit the ball up the middle.  If we can do that, hits will come.  We have some bad habits about pulling every pitch. But we will take the win.

TWIS:  Katie lived out her dream as she became a JV pitcher.  Melissa was hit in the ankle and was not able to play.  Alyssa rolled her ankle in practice.  At first, we thought she had reinjured her thumb.  Whitney took one of the side of the face in practice and has one eye that is darker than the other one.  Did you hear the time change for Northwood?  Northwood has cancelled us for two years.  It was a good choice on their part. Prom this weekend.  Originally, the prom weekend was next week.. so the game schedule kept that Friday open.  Then the Prom was changed to this weekend...that is why there are three games this week...more schedule stuff.  Lindy did have a little baseball player named Brock.  We need the 2005 Conference championship banner painted on the sign.  Nice to have the hitting net up.  What was Miranda doing on the floor of the dugout?  Did you see Michelle's mom in the Leader.... Holly had pleurisy but is improving.  Bring money to Northwood so we can stop at Macs in Spooner.  No turkey. Hope the Easter bunny was good to you.  The season will now go very fast... Stop and Enjoy each game.  The most important game is always the next one.  Hit the ball up the middle.  Get your hands in front of the plate..quit moving your head.  Use better follow through.  then run like mad!  Things come in cycles...see ya next time around.  Elise hit one out last game and had her picture on the Carleton web page.  The other pics at the bottom are from my math class where we work veryyyyyy hard.  Once upon a time there was a Princess.... and Life was Good.
