Grantsburg Gobbles up Barron
So Barron calls right around noon and says...we maybe won't be able to play.. we ignore them... Then they call just before we leave and say...only one field ready...maybe some JV later...we ignore them... We drive to the field.... and they tell us that it is moved... Turn north at the corner store they say... must be some local landmark. Although, Don is from Barron and I practice taught there so we actually knew where the corner store existed.. So we turned north, passed the river, turned by the big tree.. and shazam! We were at the ball field.. complete with beautiful brand new bathrooms that weren't open, yet... It was just like playing at home. The field was dry and fans started to show up. Buddy and Sena arrived so we were ready to "play ball."
It has always been a good joke to tell the younger classmen that we either won or loss the coin flip... They always cheer. Tonight, we lost the coin flip so we were the visitors. It was a good thing because Barron was the home team. Katie started the game with a grounder to third but was thrown out. Whitney, batting in the #2 spot tonight, unleashed a rope down the third baseline and coasted into third with a triple. Mollie, batting #3 tonight, promptly singled her home for the first run. In Barron's half of the inning Kunkle reached on an error and stole second. It was a good thing Miranda couldn't see into the sun or she would have nailed her. Being slightly overconfident, she tried to steal third but Miranda and Shelby ganged up on her and she was gone.
Jamie started the top of the second with a walk. Shelby placed a perfect sacrifice bunt down the third base line allowing Jamie the opportunity to get all the way to third. Soon, she scored on a passed ball. Barron went quickly in their half.
We knew this was going to be only a five inning game from the start so we also knew that each inning counted. And it so happened that the third inning counted for nine more runs. Katie walked. Whit singled. Mollie singled. Eventually Shelby singled and Mollie picked up her second hit of the inning. The outcome was no longer in doubt.
Grantsburg ended the game with 15 runs on only 7 hits and 11 walks. Mollie picked up three hits while Whitney scored four runs. Grantsburg did pull off one double play. Grantsburg also made a couple of base running errors. Tonight it didn't matter but another game it will.
Mollie pitched the first four innings while Jamie wrapped it up with some heavy heat. Barron did get two hits but only walked one time. For a game early in April, there were very few errors.
The altered schedule had the JV play 3 innings at the end. Melissa pitched and picked up the win by a score of 2-1. Highlights were hits by Ashley and Allison. Sasha threw two runners out at the plate after wild pitches. Barron thought we were doing it intentionally.. Actually, we were all too busy eating cake.
TWIS: Michelle's mom's cheek is looking better. Ashley ate about four dinners at Macs. Happy Birthday Alyssa and thanks for the cake. I like the picture of the parents and the foreigners. We think the JV refs were smokin'. We practiced outside on Monday. The striped pants are still the favorite. lauren blew her pants tonight. We think she slid on the blacktop. Ashley says... Mr. Berg says... the fish is really shark. We think it is carp. Can you believe they keep screwing up Michelle's order? Why do we have 21 bags of equipment? Is it because we have 21 players? Did Amanda really catch the ball? Thanks Callie for the cookies. And thanks to whoever brings them next time. Did the ump wink at Sasha? So nobody wants theme night, eh? Should all the fans bring umbrellas for the SCF game? Why is there a ball in the clock? anyway...I am going to bed... I will put the really good stuff in here tomorrow... so in case anybody is still reading tonight.... Happy MaY day.gg This was a late game so expect the next TWIS to be better.
and....finally.
I tried taking the pictures with a little higher resolution...If they take too long to load on your dial up computer, please email me...I will change them back to a lower res....
