RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE
This was not a pretty game. But we made it through and advance to play St. Croix Central who beat Somerset 6-0. Tonight, Grantsburg scored five runs before they got a bloop single from Miranda. And we also picked up a few aches and strawberries. Lauren was run over by the shortstop and was awarded a base because of obstruction. Lindsey was run over by a runner going to first. Michelle was sliding into second and a Webster player was in the so called "snake pit." Katie tripped over the catcher and then the tiger pounced on her. Mollie was run over by another runner as she tried to field the foul ball... It is the most collisions we have had in our last five years put together. And I stubbed my toe. So we have a few wounds to lick before we fire up the machine next Tuesday night. It is a good thing Dawn just passed her nursing school. We needed her. And did you see her wonderful picture in the paper last week... Just below the headlines. "Huge Meth Bust" ...no connection...... And with my new camera, I can take pictures from 1 cm away. So I had to add Katie's bruise... good one.
When the entire game was over Grantsburg had only collected five hits coming from the bats of Katie, Miranda, Melissa, Lindsey, and Amanda. However the Pirates did collect 10 walks to keep the parade going. Webster did have a good 4th inning as they collected two runs on three hits and a walk. Jamie came in an closed the game in the 5th striking out two and then making a good fielding play on Thill's grounder up the middle.
Melissa had a great practice the other night. Don mentioned to me before the game that she was swinging the bat well and that she had been practicing extra hard. The crowd cheered and Melissa ripped one to left. Before Melissa's four years are over you will get used to Melissa ripping the ball. She is a strong player with talent. Look for even more hits.
Tonight is the Rice Lake scrimmage. They can't leave until after school so we won't start until 5:00. yes, people will come and watch so please feel welcome. With graduation activities, some players will leave early.
This is a busy time of the year. This is tournament season. You must rest. You must sleep. You must concentrate on school work. You must have down time. Be efficient. Get your work done. Save the extras until after the season. This is softball time. Be fresh, be focused.
TWIS: I looked for the song..singing in the rain, but I found a mermaid song. It then occurred to me that if I were a mermaid then rainy days wouldn't matter. And I kind of like mermaids, so rainy days don't matter. The Little mermaid always said... Hold your head high and the sky will always be blue. Thanks Rich Olson for baking all of those wonderful chocolate chip cookies... It was a very special treat... Thank you..And also thank you for taking such good care of our softball field. It makes it much easier to practice proper techniques when the infield is smooth. The extra work on your part is appreciated...and also to Clayton, Gerry and friends. We all piled out to Don's house on Wednesday. I think we watched katie's dance recital... We also had some tapes of Alyssa diving into the ground and then disappearing. Thanks Deb, Don, and Callie for all of the hospitality. Rice Lake isn't allowed to leave school until 3:30 Friday so the we will start scrimmaging around 4:00. Some players will have to leave early for graduation activities but that will be fine. SHELL LAKE won the Central Lakeland Conference. Congratulations to the coaches and to the players. Bruce finished a strong second behind Lake Holcombe which is in division 4. Look for LH to go a long way in the tournament. Hurley has been making noise, lately. Look for them to challenge Bruce. Last year Bruce beat them 3-2 in the tournament in extra innings. Both teams return almost everyone... very much like CFD. (nothing to do with deer). THIS IS A TEST. The pictures below were taken with a higher resolution. I need feedback from you modem people...Do they take TOO long to load? And go check out Shelby in Byron's pictures... Doesn't she have wonderful body language? And the Great Pumpkin.....inside story following......so I said to the ump, who we DONT know... Get that Webster coach/photographer out of our dugout... He says...oh no...i can't believe he is in there.... Then I added... oh wait...I will talk to him... the ump said."ok" So Byron laughs out loud because he knows what is going on. Umps we don't know are more fun. Have you ever watched Bart go for a foul ball. Last night, he knocked two kids over just so he could get it. Luck didn't play last night. Shell Lake lost. Elise mentioned... It is nice to see families with young daughters at the game. Today I am off to the river...so I won't be around. The St. Croix is special...I will chase the eagles today...key word: Chase.
L,YFEC!
And THANKS MUCH BYRON for the extra pics...especially the one of the Great Pumpkin! I have to leave for the river... and I can't get these pictures to load...I will figure it out later.......
