St. Croix Falls
Grantsburg has won three consecutive Regional Championships. Two of them coming at the expense of St. Croix Falls. If Grantsburg is to earn a 4th consecutive regional championship, it will again have to go through St. Croix. Last year Grantsburg broke open a close game in the 7th inning of the championship game. This year the game is at Grantsburg but the opponent is the same. St. Croix reached the championship game by beating Cumberland 9-3. Grantsburg had beaten Cumberland by only a 4-0 score. This new improved St. Croix team will provide a very exciting championship game. So bring your friends....Game time is 5:00 on Thursday, May 26.
It is over. St. Croix Falls pulls it out. Congratulations to the players and to the coaches. We appreciate the rivalry and wish you success in sectionals. Grantsburg season is over with a final record of 20-1.
Bill Stapp just called from Saudi Arabia. He is proud of the team and congratulates them on their 20 game winning streak....(expensive call, but he appreciates the team)
The game started dry and St. Croix went quietly in the first. Grantsburg did threaten as katie started the game with a single and Mollie walked. But St. Croix executed perfectly and Grantsburg did not score. Then the rain came...And when it rains, it pours. When the second inning was over St. Croix had picked up 6 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. Grantsburg was in a major hole. It stopped raining. For the next 5 innings, St. Croix had 0 runs and 2 hits. Even though Grantsburg put pressure on each inning, they could not come all the way back. Grantsburg ended with 10 hits but only 4 runs.
There will be one more newsletter next week to summarize this really fantastic season. Thank you for those who came to our games. Your reward was watching these fine young athletes. What an athletic year for girls in Grantsburg. You add up the wins and losses in volleyball, basketball, and softball and the record is something like 65-11. Congratulations to all the players. ...and the future is much brighter than the weather...
