So it was parent's night in Grantsburg. Last year we did the biker chick thing and everyone arrived on Harleys. This year they players talked about different things including everyone on a riding lawnmower. We did have a monster truck available but it wouldn't fit through the gate. And for you none DSL users, don't even try the hyperlinks.. So we decided on the semi truck thing. It was different. Especially when Dawn Durand graduated right there on home plate. We thought he would park by the school but I think the girls had to run to Minnesota to catch a ride. But at least it was different. This team wants its own identity and they certainly are creating a good one. Thank you parents for supporting your athletes. And thank you for attending games...in all weather...and cheering on all of the girls. They appreciate it.
So does anyone else out there think that the first inning was quite impressive. Frederic made the first three outs so quickly that our outfielders hadn't all arrived at their spots. Then Grantsburg proceeded to truck around the bases for 10 runs including some monster shots. Katie almost hit the fence to start the game. Mollie almost removed the glove from the center fielder. Whitney hit a grounder so fast the shortstop didn't bother to bend over. Then Miranda launched one into the great green beyond. Eventually Lindsey lined one of the shortstop and the Show was on.....
To Frederic's credit, they have played some good ball lately. Last week they held St. Croix to three runs in a close 3-1 loss. They have played well. But tonight was just one of those nights. Grantsburg hit them like a semi and I am sure they felt like a deer...just before it got caught in the duals...... Soon all that was left was a blotch on the free way and Grantsburg finished the conference season with an unblemished and very impressive record. To celebrate Grantsburg's 17th consecutive win, they scored 17 consecutive runs before Frederic knew what was happening.
Northwood has canceled us for the second year in a row. Spooner also canceled us. There are other teams to schedule for next year. We will look.
My favorite half inning was when Sarah showed a burst of speed and ran down a drive to right center. The next batter grounded deep to the hole at short and Whitney threw her out. The last batter blooped over Lindsey's head and Jamie ran it down. It was three consecutive plays that showed Grantsburg's all around ability in softball skills.. Great inning.
And Melissa, you received lots of compliments for your pitching. After pitching two JV games she now has some varsity experience on the mound. The future is solid.
For the time being...Grantsburg is in a league of its own.... of course we could lose the next game and be done... So we will do our best to play the game well. We are holding a full house and that will win most hands... If we cross the path of somebody with four of a kind, we may get beat.... But, DON'T BET ON IT!
TWIS: Come to Grantsburg and get all the pot you want for $3. The Pot lady comes only once in awhile...Then get out deBeer. Softball, too, has its ups and downs...and let's vote on Puff the Magic Dragon.. Drug song or not? either way it is quite cute. Thanks Jeremy for the truck....and congratulations Dawn on your graduation. It is another fine example to everyone how how work pays off...We think Northwood is just happy to never play us. Don did get us the #1 rank and we will be the home team in the regional tournament as long as we keep winning... So it is possible to play tournament games at home on Thursday, Tuesday and Thursday. Grantsburg will go for its 4th consecutive regional championship. What a first inning.... Great Blast Miranda. I think it was the music...who turned off the weather outside is frightful? Nice job on the trivia questions..... We have a very nice place to play...Thank you Grantsburg....Check out the pictures below and see who has the false teeth? Thank you parents for your talented athletic kids....It makes our job easy when they are genetically gifted...and they have a great work ethic... Rice Lake called Don last night and want to scrimmage. They are currently the #1 team in division 2 and are the defending state champs. It is a compliment that they wish to scrimmage and both teams will benefit. I have to go to Madison...but I will be back Sunday evening...and then finish this newsletter. Have a warm day. Good job on the trivia questions... Each game should be a party...Wait until the tournament comes, we have some new ideas...Do you think that parachuting would be too much? Thanks Mike for announcing and bringing your OWN music....Everybody on the roster batted tonight. Maci was warming up..... This week is at Shell Lake then the second season starts.....We have accomplished two of our goals so far.... #1) Find something fun in every game. #2) Win the Conference. When we play Shell Lake, we will attack Goal #3) Regular season undefeated.... Goal #4) Win our 4th regional championship in a row....
Now I really have to leave for Madison...
STILL MaY day...
The following is our competition for Tuesday.
