VISITOR"S SCORE LEFT BARRON AGAIN
In Grantsburg, there are exactly two weeks in the spring. It is the time when the snow is gone and the bugs have not shown up. We are in that time. The time of the year where Sena rides her bike 30 miles per hour and never gets bugs in her teeth. 10.6 miles would be the exact amount of miles. Next week, she will buddy in a wagon and pull him along. They are getting ready for Harley Night.
Grantsburg has a long way to go as they attempt to improve their softball skills. I look at the team as an 18 cylinder engine. Currently, we are hitting on about 10 cylinders...room to go.. But, tonight they made some huge strides. Barron came to town and Grantsburg was ready to answer. Barron's lead off batter singled to start the game and after Wolhk walked was in scoring position. But Herrman grounded out to end the threat. Katie Kooiker is one of the premier lead off batters in our part of the state. She led off with a first pitch shot down third for a hit. Mollie followed with a perfect bunt down third. After Whitney reached on an error, both gals scored. Whitney then tagged up on a foul ball from Miranda and trotted home when the throw went past third... 3-0 after 1 inning. The answer is yes.... you can tag up on a foul ball.
In the bottom of the second Alyssa singled to center with two outs. When Katie grounded to third, the throw was wide so Alyssa scored and Katie went to second. Mollie picked up her second hit of the night as she tripled down the line to right. 5-0 Bart was cheering wildly.
Miranda started the third with a double to the gap in right center. Lindsey followed with a solid hit up the middle. After another Barron error both would score. 7-0
In the bottom of the 5th, Shelby started with a walk. The shortstop made a bad throw on Jamie's grounder and Alyssa placed a perfect bunt single down third. After Katie's sac fly to left Mollie stood at the plate. When her ground ball went right through the second baseman's legs, Alyssa pranced home with the game ending run. And the people all sprinted to their cars and turned on the heaters.
Grantsburg ended the game with 8 hits. Katie, Mollie, and Alyssa each picked up two hits. Miranda and Lindsey had the other two. Barron struggled in the field and gave up 6 errors. Grantsburg played very well on defense and did not have an error. Barron picked up 3 hits and walked 3 times.
It is good to have 3 games under our belt. We are improving... It is now time for Luck. Our goal for this week is to win 1 more game this week. Luck has always proven to be a good team and this year they are even stronger than last year. They say that their field is in poor shape so maybe it will be moved to Siren or even here. But it should be a great game. Starting the conference season is exciting. This Pirate team is eager...
TWIS: It is soooo nice to be outside. Mr. Olson and Mr. Johnson worked hard on the field. Thanks. I think they planted some rye. I missed the scoreboard. The wind was windy. The little tracksters were in the way. You know that running to the fence drill? We will only do that when we lose.... Jamie was running all over during practice retrieving balls. Sliding on the rake....catching the glove..getting sand in the pants....forgetting sliding shorts...BRING THEM... Byron is back from Chile. He was working on Habitat for Humanity...He almost flew home early to watch us at the dome, but decided to wait. He needs a tattoo, too. Enjoy these two weeks in Grantsburg...nice weather no bugs. Mollie had the world's shortest pitch tonight. I think it bounced behind her... I think the batter had to use a check swing. Even though we had a 4:00 start for pre-game, 7 players were late.. forgot to change their clocks or something.... or forgot they were out for the team... Hey..did you see Katie tag up with two outs...brilliant coaching...... but we did have some good baserunning... When Whitney tagged on the foul ball, she took full advantage of the player not being in position. It was really nice to have Pete on the mic...thanks.... And you keep scolding those little kids about bringing the balls back. Two of them were crying. I am looking for some Durand-Durand music.... No brownies tonight??? what is up..everybody must want to run tomorrow. WE played well in the wind... It is starting to thunder now...so perhaps the field will get wet.. We played shallow tonight because of the soft infield... KC stands for know conditions...wind, sand, sun....always be aware and play accordingly... Miranda's long fly ball went only halfway....We didn't have to play that deep...KNOW the CONDITIONS>>>>> And...as you can tell from the meager picture selection, I need somebody else to take pictures...That way..I can actually coach a little...Deb said she liked the uniforms. We need our music......
..So...what did you give up for Lent? My thoughts are that you didn't give up anything, but that you added something!!!
