This year as 5 senior stars......they have combined for 172 Runs, 152 Hits, 87 walks, and 139 RBI's.  They have won 21 games....  They are really something....

Early in the season, Grantsburg beat St. Croix 10-3.  In the middle of the season, St. Croix beat Grantsburg.  Last night, we broke the tie and Grantsburg came out on top again by the score of 10-3.  The Pirates will take the show on the road to Somerset next Tuesday for sectional play-offs.  They will play the winner of the Hurley and Phillips game.

Tonight was a great night.  The weather was beautiful, the field was perfect, line-ups were announced, the Star Spangled Banner was sung, we sprayed Off in each other's eyes, and the game was on the radio and it was a Championship at stake.  Grantsburg was the #1 seed and therefore was the automatic home team.   Schrock didn't take long to get St. Croix on the board.  She reached first on a Grantsburg error and reached third on consecutive past balls.  She would cross the plate and give the early lead to the Saints.  Nell started the bottom of the first with a walk. She reached second on a past ball and tied the game when Jamie picked up her first hit of the night.  St. Croix did not score in the second inning.  In the Pirate half, Katie W and Carrie walked.  Katie was gunned down at the plate with a perfect throw from the shortstop. Carrie eventually scored the go ahead run when Kerissa put the ball into play.  Shrock is a great player from St. Croix Falls.

St. Croix tied the game in the third after Shrock's opening bunt down the first base line. In the bottom of the third, Jamie walked with two outs.  Katie K came in as a courtesy runner and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Whitney then hit a gap shot to left center to score Katie.  Whit was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple.  St. Croix threatened in the 4th, 5th, and 6th, but Elise was tooooo tough.  The big inning for Grantsburg was the 5th.  Kerissa started the inning with a walk.  Susan also walked.... placing two runners into position.  When Elise reached on a fielder's choice one more run came across.  Then BIG DOG Jamie crushed one down the third base line scoring two more runs.  Whitney followed with a shot that ricocheted off the third baseman and scored another.  Carrie singled and Megan singled and the game was becoming ours...  Grantsburg did manage another run in the 6th following a rope triple by Susan and a long blast single by Jamie.....Since it was Jamie's third hit of the night, she stood smugly on first and waited for her courtesy runner to show....

The regional championship was claimed by Grantsburg.  The Pirates ended the game with 10 runs on 9 hits and 7 walks.  St. Croix ended the game with 3 runs on 8 hits and only 3 walks.  The Pirates had avenged their only defeat.  Jamie had 3 hits for the night.  Megan and Whitney each had two hits.  Carrie and Susan had the other two.  Susan, Jamie, and Carrie each scored 2 runs apiece.  Jamie, Whitney and Megan had 2 RBI's each.

TWIS:  It is late after the game... I am too excited to sleep so I am at school scaring the janitors and writing this newsletter.  I keep making announcements that hopefully nobody else can hear.ggg    Nobody dokes smope.  (Mike...)  Everybody takes pictures lately.  Each of the St. Croix girls wished us good luck in the tournament.  That was a very classy thing to do.  The extra bleachers came in handy tonight.  And, gggg It is good to know that sometimes I get what I want.gg  Mike asked if I could explain the ashes thing...  Actually, it is usually my breath that removes the ashes. The wind was only to throw you off. Is that better, Mike?  And to think that Aaron actually has to explain this stuff to others.  And Aaron, ask Mortizy if that was your picture on the picnic table.  Thanks for the treats...Deb and Mike and Mandi.  The brownies, as usual, were very good.  Hey Matt, like your pic?  The WCMP crew will join us at Somerset.  We all got blisters again from hitting practice.   Elise jumped into the ball basket.  The gnats are our home town secret weapon.  If we had sold bug spray, we could have made a lot. Megan had her best night at the plate. Congratulations to the seniors on being great people, playing wonderful softball, and graduating this weekend.  Please stay safe...  Stay away from Parties that don't bring you LUCK. .... and there is no such thing as False Hopes. If Charity brought you somewhere, it is a sign of good luck.ggg  Heather, it was great to see you and we are all glad you could come and watch... Does everyone remember when Heather and Jocelyn batted 1-2....  If anybody ever threw them a strike, they hit it...  Softball is like a box of chocolates..... you put your cards on the laundry table and see what you get.gggg  And next Tuesday, We will just play the hand that we have and see if anybody is good enough to take us...  Besides, my key doesn't work anymore.ggg  And if there is a team that can beat a full house, they deserve some credit.  so.... until the next time around..... I will try to focus on other stuff.g
