It Rained all day......

It rained in the morning. It rained at noon. And it rained during the game. In the first two instances, it was moisture...... then it rained runs...and it kept pouring. In tournament games, you must play at least 5 innings... so we did... The players kept looking outside of the dugout and they would come back smiling and say.."They are still here." So finally, I asked.... What are you talking about? They said the fans are still here. So even though the outcome of the game was determined early, the fans gave up things like hot chocolate, movies, and supper just to watch the Pirates put on another show. So thanks for staying and cheering on this fine group of young women. When you look for things to say after such a game, this is what came to mind. The team played focused, did their jobs, respected the other team, and performed well.
The game was on the radio again. They will continue to cover us for the next few games so make sure you listen. Head phones during the game would be a novel idea. It was also nice having Mike on Mic last night.
Whit got the nod for pitching. The game begin with some unusual plays. Whit hit the first batter, the second hitter reached on an error and the third batter walked. At this point, Webster was making pre-mature reservations for the next level. Webster's next hitter lined to Nell at second who promptly through it at the fence by our dugout. Elise went and got it and through it back to third for a double play. With a little better ball handling skills, it could have been a triple play. Whit fanned the next batter and Webster lost its chance at scoring. Whitney went on to pitch brilliantly. When the game was completed, Whitney had picked up a no-hitter while pitching to only 18 hitters in the 5 inning game. She struck out 6 Tigers.
Offensively, the Pirate attack was torrential. Nell had four consecutive hits and scored 6 times.... with most of them being slides into home plate. Susan walked three times and was hit by a pitch as she scored 3 times. Elise scored 4 runs on 2 hits, twice hit by pitches, and two walks. Now Brittney and Elise are friends... so when Brittney hit Elise the second time, Brittney said...Sorry, Elise.... and jokingly Elise added...you are lucky I am not pitching... they both laughed. That is a special thing about local towns playing each other... Jamie added 3 hits from the clean-up spot. Katie W walked 4 times and scored 3 runs. All the chicks played again and they all scored. Sarah had a great triple to left and earned a big smile. katie K and Shelby each picked up hits, too.
Grantsburg will play home on Tuesday night against the winner of Cumberland and Somerset. Also, we will introduce the 7th and 8th grade team between innings. Make sure you invite your friends... It will be fun!
TWIS: So what do you say when you shake hands after that game? Good game? no Good Luck? no, the season is over. Thanks for coming? Nice to see you? You won basketball, but we won softball? How is your dad? well in any case, Webster hung in there. They kept playing and they kept trying and that was a good effort. It is their first year and they will improve. I saw Dan Thill standing by the dugout... He is a local fastpitch legend...kind of like Don. Webster will be all right. The WCMP guys stayed in the car... thanks for coming and broadcasting the game. Cut out your picture and place it on the fridge in your lounge. You need to hang a banner in the outfield. Last night as we were singing the National Anthem, the flag pole was right by a shed. We are going to hang a sign that says.... It is not too late to join your school's track team. I cut my finger on the broken bat... Blood born pathogens everywhere. We warmed up in the gym. The floor dry made home plate perfect. Are we automatically the home game in tournaments? Sarah, you had a nice hit... and you were even wearing school stuff... and Shelby, too. Kerissa headed for Chicago after the game. Hi Missy.... we are going to kick your butt on Monday. I saw Traci at the game... so here is a Traci story. She started in left field as a frosh... just like sister Carrie is this year. But, Traci decided she didn't like softball so retired after her freshmen year.... So, Carrie you will not retire.!!!! Go back and check the WIAA page and you will find out who won between Cumberland and Somerset. Half the teams in Wisconsin hung up their spikes last night...about 5% didn't own spikes.gg We lived to play another game. Men's fastpitch in Cushing this weekend... Will somebody tell me how to IM? The Green Beast still wears its gift..... Should we really move the scoreboard to center? We still have 3 hitters over .500 batting average. Will Luck win its section? Will you be at the alumni game on Monday? Don't worry about making an alumni line-up.. we will do it for you..... The seniors are on Wild Thing today....class trip. Have you seen any wild turkeys? Grantsburg picked up its 19 th win last night to set a school record. I talked with Sunny last night.... (our dog) Do they call it man's best friend because they listen...they look happy... and they don't question your opinions? and...gggggg, they don't tell anybody!!! Honor our service people... on this Memorial Day. Honor our country. Drive carefully... and greet your friends... and help load the stove. you all come back, ya hear?
HYGYT and IRYT and smile:)
