20-1..wow!

The 2003 Fastpitch team has raised its record to 20-1.  Never before in Grantsburg history has that ever happened.  The accomplishment hasn't happened in too many schools and it has placed this team among the elite.  Grantsburg will take its #8 state ranking in division 3 to the next round on Thursday evening.

The biggest news last night was that Jamie had sprained her ankle and would have to miss the game.  Freshmen Shelby Durand was called on to replace her and she did a very fine job.  Sometimes, in sports activities, you are called upon to grow up quickly…. And Shelby did…. She grew up sooo quickly that she had to shave her legs after the third inning.gg  Nice Job Shelby.  And I hope you heal quickly Jamie…. Byron and I tried some magic so I hope it will help.

Cumberland entered the game coming from a 9-2 win over Somerset.  During the first inning, the lead off batter walked to start the game.  After the next two batters were benched by Elise, we dropped a pop up to right... and allowed the runner to score.  Grantsburg quickly responded in the bottom of the first.  Katie W, Susan, and Elise all walked.  And after a couple of past balls, Grantsburg had taken the lead.  We also have to practice our base running when we have runners on first and third with two outs.

The next two innings went quickly for Somerset as Elise fanned 5 of the six batters.   The Pirates added 3 more in the second.  The two Katies walked and eventually scored on Susan's shot to left field.  When Carrie singled to left to drive in Susan, the Pirates were comfortably ahead by the score of 7-1.

Grantsburg continued to add runs in the third.  Katie K struck out but reached on a catcher's error.  After Nell walked and advanced on a wild pitch, Katie W lined to left scoring the two runners ahead of her.  After she scored the game was now tilted towards the home team.  Carrie and Kerissa's runner Ashley.. scored in the 4th inning to make the score 12-2 and the game was ended by the 10 run rule.  75% of teams in Wisconsin have already hung up their spikes.  Grantsburg is still playing ball.  We expect a good crowd on Thursday night as the Pirates take on St. Croix Falls in an attempt to avenge their only loss of the year.  For last night's game, they hauled in an extra set of bleachers and I am sure they will be filled soon.

TWIS:  St. Croix Falls beat Unity 5-4...wow....  Park Falls was a #1 seed and they have moved on to the next sport.  Luck won.  Osceola lost to Ashland. Now I know that only a few people get these jokes....sorry!gg so I have some new people to include....  So........ OML to all of your buds.....and it was nice to see the drawing on the picnic table.... Who do you think it was?   And that pick up line about two something........  I have never used it.  Thanks for coming back alumni.  You still have it!!  It is refreshing to see softball enjoyed for the sole purpose of playing the game....   Have you ever just sat there and poured ashes over your head?  You are sitting their in the dark... Then if the wind ever blows... and it will... the ashes blow away and  you are  the same person.... Did you follow that?  Come on Mortizy...I wouldn't do that!! YOU DO!!  Liz took the daredevil out of here eyebrow.  Heather didn't come but should show at practice any night that she can.  Did you notice the crowd?  There were lots of fun snacks, too.  Now this portion of TWIS was written before the Cumberland game...Jamie will not play.....HEAL JAMIE>>>>   now the game is over....time flies.... 20 years in the blink of an eye.  12-2 was a good score.  Shelby did great.  Susan's knee looks ugly.   We watered the field 3 times yesterday and the lime grew. Is Katie #9 or #6?  It depends on if she is running or getting stuff out of the garbage. The rule states that the name is the important part...the number is only nice.  the umps should have just changed the number and ignored it...Since we thought we would have the umps for one more game, we pretended that they actually knew the rules...gg  Nice Job Brandon.... WCMP was there again.  did anybody wear headphones?  Nice to hear the 7th and 8th grade player's names announced.  Home game Thursday.  Seniors have two days of school left.  Do I hear rumors of Major Parties in nearby towns???  I shot an arrow into the sky...several times.. I may hang my bow on the wall for awhile..  Crest strips work!!!  and I saw writing on the helmet.....  It said Petmar..gg  Why doesn't somebody film the entire St. Croix game? Somebody must have a camera......  I still have passes for 6th hour.gg  I guess the biggest lesson learned...
