The crown is being painted purple....so the font has to be white.

With just a couple of conference games to go, the Pirates are in charge.  Shell Lake has at least two losses... as does Luck.  So even if Grantsburg were to be beaten by Luck and then by Clayton, the Pirates would share the conference title.  However, these Pirates aren't too interested in sharing and will do their best to finish the conference season on a high.  This will be Grantsburg's third consecutive conference championship.  Way to go Pirates!!!  In life, you must stop and celebrate successes!

Game 1:  Again Grantsburg was forced into a double header situation.  To date, all double headers have gone well for Grantsburg.  Callie took the mound in the first game and handled Clear Lake quite easily.  Clear Lake would manage only 1 hit and strike out 8 times.  Susan made a great throw from right to take away a line drive hit.  The infield turned another double play...this time 1-6-3.  The Pirates had zero errors behind the strong pitching.  Offensively, the Pirates have been struggling against the slower pitching.  In the first inning, Kelcy singled followed by Callie's double.  With the exception of Katie's single, that was all the Pirates could muster until the bottom of the third.  Kelcy again started with a single.  After a couple of outs Susan kept her hitting streak alive and knocked Kelcy in for run #2.  Susan would also score as Jamie picked up a single.  In the 4th and last inning,  Liz walked with two outs and would score when the third baseman chose to try and get Liz at third rather than just throwing to first base..  The problem was she threw the ball to Liz and Liz decided not to catch it.  The final score of game 1 was 4-0.  The Pirates had 6 hits in the 4 innings and only walked twice.   They did manage to give the third baseman a good work out.

Game 2:  Elise pitched game 2.  Clear Lake did manage 1 unearned run in the first following a Pirate error.  For the rest of the game, Clear Lake remained relatively quiet.  Elise finished the game with 8 strikeouts and allowed 3 hits. She walked zero batters.  The Pirates did score in the first inning.  After Kelcy walked, she was forced out on Callie's fielder's choice.  With Elise singling, it set up Susan for a walk.  Callie did score on a wild pitch making it 1-0.  In the third inning, Kelcy started off with a single.  Elise and Jamie followed with their own hits.  After Becky's single and a Grace walk, the Pirates had picked up two more runs.  Two more runs were added in the 4th.  Kelcy reached on an error and advanced on Callie's single.  Susan then lined a double to the gap in right center scoring both runs.  The 5th inning started with a single by Grace.  Laura was the runner for Grace and would score on a sacrifice fly by Liz.  The final score of the game was 6-1.

TWIS:  Today is MaY day.  It will always be a special day.  Don't forget to celebrate it in some manner.  Did Rosa play shortstop for Clear Lake?  Becky had to teach the ump how to read.  The umps really like coming to Grantsburg and you will see them at 3 baseball games.  Nice bunt, Katie.  The third baseman from Clear Lake had all kinds of action.  Make sure you check out her pic at the end.  Lake Jamie is almost gone.  Hello Nell...We all hope you are better soon.  We miss you.  We have back to back nights with legitimate double plays.  They were great.   Hi Deb.  They happened just like they were supposed to happen.  Liz is a great catcher.  Our players liked the blue uniforms.  Buddy and Sena wanted this web address...  What are you selling now, Lindy?  Heather is coming home soon...I will rake her spot.  We need some sunny weather.  I spelled Jaime incorrectly...oops.  what do you expect with a rake?  After our double play, a player from the Clear Lake dugout said..."We saw that on TV once..."  Our players are starting to get well.... and now the well players are considering getting sick. ..wait until the weekend.  Home game Thursday.  Clayton away.... good tournament on the following Saturday... and then the run.  Hey..Andy.  We will practice on our wrist snap.... Our hands are fast, but our snap is slow.  Play hard...Practice hard...Keep your heads in the game, because 1 play will count.  Queen has lots of good songs... Songs can say so much.
