Over the river and through the woods, to Clayton we did go.  We had the postmaster with us so sleet, snow, high winds, miserable weather, hurricane gusts or horizontal rain would not stop us.  It didn't matter that the track meet was called off or even that the geese were flying the wrong direction in an inverted V.  We were going to play and that is all there was to it.

Now this would be the last game between Clayton and Grantsburg in softball as the conference changes next year.  We arrived at the deserted field fully expecting to find a note that says "We Forfeit."  But as we drove in, the players started filtering from the concession stand carrying blankets, pillows, tarps and torpedo heaters.  They were ready to play, too.  Every night is a good night for softball.

Grantsburg was the first team to bat.  Liz, in her newly adjusted stance, stepped to the plate and after twenty or thirty foul balls, reached first on an error.  Kelcy was the next batter and reached on her first of four walks.  After Callie placed a perfect bunt single, Elise walked to bring Liz in for the first score.  When Susan walked, Kelcy scored the second run of the inning.

The Pirates would add two more runs in the second inning.  After two quick outs, Liz walked and advanced when the wind blew Kelcy's peep shot away from everybody.  Callie, Elise and Susan all picked up walks in the inning.  Nell walked to start the third inning and would score later in the inning.  Katie also walked and scored thanks to a Liz line drive to left and a Callie single past the third baseman.  Grantsburg went quietly in the fourth but picked up 12 in the top of the 5th to bring the total to 19-0.

You would think that wind, etc. would be a deterrent to pitching.  Callie was just amazing.  In the 5 inning game she struck out 9 batters and didn't walk a person.  The Clayton batters would often chuckle at how inept they seemed.  In pitching a no-hitter, only one baserunner reached on a Grantsburg error.  There were a couple of good fielding plays with one play being a 4-9-3 put out at first.   That would be a play that not even you, Byron has seen very often.

Game Summary:  Grantsburg had 19 runs on 9 hits.  Callie stayed hot and picked up 3 hits.  Elise picked up two hits with the rest from Grace, Jamie, Liz and Kelcy.  Kelcy walked 4 times while Elise and Susan each walked 3 times.  Liz would score 4 runs while Kelcy picked up 3.  Elise, Susan, and Jamie each scored twice.

TWIS:  This current team has a team batting average of .359 which is the best ever....Keep it up.  Once upon a time we played softball in shorts.  The birds were singing and the tulips were pushing their way towards the sky.  Lately, all of the tulips have been heading south..in the shape of a V.  To the best of my recollection, I don't remember Becky Sundquist getting a hit.  Becky M finally rips the wind screen off of the fence and then they get her name wrong... bummer.  Craig already fixed in online. We are seeded #1.  Forecast for Saturday is 75 and sunny.  But, I had to check out a lot of cities before I found a forecast that I liked.  I think the true forecast is more clouds and rain... Hopefully, it holds off awhile.  Osceola is leading their conference.  Barron is leading their conference.  The pitching machine spits water melon seeds.  Clayton drags the field every day.  Track had to be called because they kept losing the shot.  Helmets in the pole vault are for protection from hail.  I almost called but I thought I would wait...  Tough weather for turkey hunting.  Friday is sunny for the seniors.  Lake Jaime is back.  Using open enrollment, we may get 9 players for next year.  Do you remember when you were in grade 8 and played Osceola 3 times?  and Somerset 4 times? We won them all and will see the exact pitcher again.  The Osceola pitcher struck out 15 in one game this week.  Do you have sound on your computer?  Close your eyes and smell the Pines...wow.  I just checked out http://www.fastpitchchronicle.com/scores.htm and discovered that we are currently ranked #10 in division 3.   Second base was a mud hole.  Buddy wanted to see a somersault into the lake.  We started with Cameron and Somerset and may play Somerset then Cameron. It was really cold.  We have an MVT.  Clayton wanted to quit early but we were having tooooo much fun. The river went way up.  Hot bath or cold showers?  If you missed the sweet spot last night, your hands would ring.  The ump hated Jamie.  Jamie hated the ump. By the time you get done with this page, you will think you had a wonderful time last night...turkey pancakes with broken legs.....funny.  Lindy may be around Wednesday night for sliding drills.  We have some super, super fans that come to every game.... Let's all get together and buy them a tent.

And now for some excerps from O Klare Paper.  Jaime Beaner has done very well at first.  Kelly Belland is an amazing picture in the cold.  Liss is a walking rock concert.  Kelly Jahnsen has adapted well to 2nd base.  Elsie has a very good arm and is batting well.  Becky SundLain turned her foot last game.  Suzanne L throws out people from everywhere. Neil is fast in center.  Meghan Soderquist has a nice swing.  Laura happyplowedarea will still do a flip.  Kristi Worrelll still switches close with Lise.  Grase did the fake slide at home..then decided to finish it off....and The Tobinator came to America to Partee...  Hey Andy...Take 2 and hit to right.  Dan, be careful in Scotland.  John? You read this stuff?  Jocelyn is coming back...so is Heather.  Jess already is...Grandma Marlys...Sorry, Elise.  One week to go seniors....Hey Russ, come back and watch.  I haven't written on the road, lately.  Do you remember JULY day, too?  Someday! not a question, just an exclamation!  Let's all celebrate the end of AP English by writing creative grafitti.
