Now Wednesday night was just terribly cold.  The players bundled up and practiced very well.  It was only the coaches that were cold.  Although, 20 degrees or 90 degrees, it seems like Don can always throw strikes.  Game time came on Thursday and it was pleasant.... compared to practice.  Jamie was just thrilled that the water behind first was now ice and that she wouldn't be getting wet tonight.

There are only a couple of things you can do to stay warm on a cold night.  One is to get out of the wind and the other is to do lots of running.  Thursday night we did both.  Using a record 34 hits the Pirates would circle the bases 37 times and stay in the dugout for long periods of time.  It was a great display of hitting.  Although the running was successful, several base running errors happened.  I really don't think anybody has an attention span long enough to read the play by play but I will give you some highlights.  There were many.

Callie pitched game 1 and recorded 5 strikeouts with no walks.  Turtle Lake managed only 1 little spinning hit to the infield.  The infield played very well in support and had zero errors.  Offensively the Pirates batted only 4 times.  Kelcy had 3 hits while Callie, Susan, Jamie, and Grace picked up 2 hits.  The other hits came from Liz, Nell, and Katie.  Grantsburg had 14 runs on 14 hits.

Elise pitched the first 4 innings of game 2.  She recorded 7 strikeouts and only walked 1 player.  She allowed 2 hits.  Liz fulfilled an athletic dream and pitched the last inning allowing all 3 runs.  Offensively, Elise had the first 5 hit game since Heather had done it a few years ago.   Callie picked up 3 hits.  Liz, Kelcy, Grace, Becky and Katie all had 2 hits.  The remaining hits came from Susan and Jamie.  The Pirates scored 23 runs on a record 20 hits.  Cold weather just didn't seem to affect the Pirates.... What a night.,

TWIS: It was sooooo cold on Wednesday that Jamie didn't even get her feet wet.  The bats stung like a bee.  The new batting cage is now standing, but you can't get in it...  CONGRATULATIONS LIZ LAUER ON BEING PIONEER PRESS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK.... GREAT HONOR AND WELL DESERVED.   Put those cold little hands in your wArm pits.  Did some fans really stay for both games?  Everybody say Hi to Andy Brekke next time you see him.  He is a great fastpitch player and has come to watch you girls play.   Liz was so excited to pitch that she blew out her fish line.  Callie needs practice on balls in the dirt....so throw stuff at her.  Becky makes strange sounds while she stands at third.  Were the guys in the truck chained to the back?  No Snowmobiling during the game.  Buddy and Sena were late and we almost couldn't start.  Turtle Lake kept their focus during the entire game.  It would have been easy for them to fold, but they hung in there.... Nice job Turtle Lake.  During warm-ups, we looked terrible.  I told the team that very same thing.  The Turtle Lake dugout was listening, too.  So....after the game...did you say "Good game"  or did you tell the truth?  And...by the way...We have 5 hitters at or above a 400 batting average....Can you name them?
