The Pirates took the show on the road last night. We were supposed to pick up Tom and Michelle in Siren, but they were off chasing other buses. They saw a bus go by and immediately followed it. Michelle was mad. When the bus finally pulled into a track meet in another town, the Rombachs decided...."Wrong bus"
Northwood was 3-0 in conference play as they prepared for their thrashing. They had defeated Clear Lake, Turtle Lake and Clayton but now it was time for Grantsburg. Tonight was a double header to make up for an earlier rain out. It would be the last time Northwood played Grantsburg in conference play for softball.
Grantsburg was the visiting team in the first game and runs came abundantly. Liz started with a walk. Kelcy, Callie, and Elise hit back to back to back hits and soon 4 runs crossed the plate. When you add that to the 7 runs in the second, the first game was in cruise control.
Highlights from game 1: Liz scored 3 times and walked 3 times. She also hit 23 foul balls. Soon Northwood would all line up on the third base line and break to the fence during the pitch. Kelcy picked up 3 RBI's with 2 hits and she also scored 2 runs. Callie picked up 2 hits as she scored 3 times and also picked up 3 RBI's. Elise continued hot with 2 hits and 2 runs. Sue picked up 2 RBI's and a hit. Jamie scored a run and picked up an RBI. Nell doubled and scored a run. Grace scored a run and Megan scored twice. Callie picked up the win and the Pirates won 17-2.
Elise would have her first chance to pitch a game and pitched very well. She picked up 9 strikeouts in the 5 innings. Grantsburg was the home team for this game and scored twice in the bottom of the first. Again, Kelcy, Callie, and Elise put together back to back to back hits. They would add 1 in the 2nd and 2 in third and the last run in the 4th. Northwood picked up 2 runs in the 4th and 1 more in the 5th and last inning.
Highlights for game 2: Kelcy and Elise each had 2 hits. Liz and Callie picked up the other 2 hits as Grantsburg only batted 4 times. Liz scored twice. Kelcy, Elise, Susan and Becky scored the other runs. Becky would walk both times she batted.
TWIS: Buddy beat us to the game....and so did Tom. Most of the bus ride was worrying about Tom and Michelle. Jamie forgot her spikes at home. Sliding pads still disappear. The infield was soft. There is always a baseball game going on at Northwood. The Stapps came and cheered. The bus ride home had something to do with ....on a beach somewhere... There was lots of laughing and screaming. I didn't understand the concept. Hello Grandma Marlys. Dan, are you still in Scotland. Heather is coming home this summer. I will rake the infield. She gave Becky the idea of tinted contacts. Megan gets dates at subway. Becky wants to live in Australia and Italy. Katie Worrell's favorite number is 50 something. McDonalds was packed. Laura is going to ride her horse around the field. Tobinater....is world class. Becky had a burger king crown. We think she is going to wear it to prom. The batting cage goes up today. We think Shell Lake beat Luck. The batting box is 7 feet long. Susan got to play some first base. We still need a double play. Liz does her eye thing every game.
