Color in 27 more runs for the Pirates

In the last couple of years there has been a problem with playing Unity. The problem was the game would never happen. One year, we showed up at Unity and they were at Osceola… scheduling problem. Jocelyn kissed the Eagle. And then our bus died and we had to push start it. Another year it rained and we never rescheduled the game. Last night the weather was fine and so were the Pirates. The varsity won 9-0 with Doni Jo pitching another "No Hitter." The JV trounced Unity 18-0 and even let them bat an extra time. There was joy in Mudville, but by looking at the size of our players it may have been Whoville.

It was Doni’s turn to pitch and she pitched well. It won’t take long to summarize Unity’s offense. They had zero hits and 6 strikeouts. Doni only walked one and she also hit one. Whitney thinks the batter should have moved but the umpire disagreed. Grantsburg did commit a couple of errors but also had some outstanding plays. Jessica was the human vacuum at first as she snagged some tough throws. Caroline was either playing a deep second or shallow right, but came up with a couple of very nice catches. At the end of the game there was a grounder towards the hole at short. I looked at the ump and he motioned error. Doni cheered because it gave her a feather for her cap.

The Pirates wasted little time in the first. Jocelyn started with a line drive to center that was caught but Heather, Callie, and Kelcy all drew walks. After some wild pitches, an error at third and another walk, the Pirates had colored in four squares.

The next set of four runs came in the 4th inning. Jocelyn walked. (Go figure!) Heather singled and stole second. After Callie reached on an error by the pitcher, Kelcy singled up the middle. Soon all runners had crossed the plate and the Pirates had a commanding 8-0 lead.

The last Pirate run came in the 7th inning. Doni Jo walked and scored on Caroline’s triple to left. The game ended with Grantsburg winning 9-0.

In the JV game, the Pirates also had a good outing. Elise walked only four and Becky M. hit one into the parking lot. It was an 18-0 romp and the third JV win in a row.

TWIS: So where did the original cat picture appear? Is it really Floyd? No guts no glory. Jessica exclaimed… "It was Caroline." The Lizard hit a double and a half to left and laughed the entire way. The bench seemed empty tonight. The Unity third baseman snagged two line drives. Heather is making the move. Don commented on how the players looked. Hello Katie from the Leader….. Why don’t you ever come and stand in our dugout? The highway field was like a highway. Sliding pads will become more useful as the fields become harder. I sat on my pontoon last night, closed my eyes, and had a dream. Then I got bit by a mosquito. Did you see Jessica’s picture? PROM: Have fun, be careful, make good decisions. You know you are a Redneck when you can’t figure out how they keep the gas station bathrooms so clean. We had NO strikeouts in the Unity game. Don’t let the outfielders come in or it will be a delay of game. What will the coaches wear next? Do they call each other? In Minnesota anybody is eligible to play in a varsity contest. If you are a 7th grader and better than the older athletes…. You play. In the Minnesota state tournament, one team played two 8th graders…. Talent is the deciding factor. Do you know the Prom Queen for Saturday? I do.
