Since last spring, the tournament game at Luck had haunted the Pirates. Luck had eliminated Grantsburg in the tournament. The game ended with a "hard to take" call. That score was settled last night in the double header at Siren. Grantsburg would score 30 runs and pitch a "No Hitter." The Pirates were "HOT."
There is no way that I will give you a play by play of 30 runs, but I will touch on some of the highlights…. We are still not sure why we played a double header at Siren, but it was a beautiful night for softball. The sun was shining, the concession stand was full of hot dogs, the announcer was reading most names correctly, and the Pirates were scoring runs.
Game 1 offensive highlights:
Grantsburg unloaded early picking up five runs in the first inning. Jocelyn started the game with a double and Susan added a solid line drive to left. After a few walks, the parade was on. In the second inning, the Pirates kept the bases filled. Jocelyn walked and Heather ripped another shot to the outfield. After Callie reached on an error, Kelcy ripped a screamer at the pitcher. Fortunately, the pitcher deflected the line drive with her bare hand but it hit her on the tip of the shoulder. She was done pitching. The Pirates kept the pressure on and picked up eight runs in the second. It was all over but the cheering. Grantsburg would empty the bench as all players got into the game. Jocelyn and Susan would pick up two hits for the night. Other players with hits included Heather, Kelcy, Brandie, Liz and Jess. Jocelyn, Callie, Kelcy and Jess would each score twice while Susan scored three times. The Pirates also stole five bases.
Defensive highlights Game 1:
Doni Jo pitched a "No hitter." She struck out ten Cardinals and walked five. Luck’s only run came in the fifth after a walk and an error. The Pirates looked sharp and even intimidating.Game 2 offensive highlights:
The Pirates were the visiting team in game 2. They jumped back into the parade routine and put seven runners across the plate in the first inning. One interesting note is the back to back to back singles by Caroline, Elise, and Jamie. Then Caroline and Elise put back to back triples. Callie also picked up a hit in the first. The rout was on and the Pirates started to coast. The bats were alive this game. Two hits each were picked up by Callie, Kelcy, Caroline (last year’s KKK trio), Elise, and Jamie. Jocelyn and Heather each picked up one hit. Callie and Kelcy scored three runs apiece while Heather and Caroline picked up two per player. The Pirates stole 11 bases including two delayed steals by Kelcy. Becky McLain and Naomi also had good at bats, but Luck made the catches. Check out the eyes on the next picture…..
Game 2 defensive highlights:
Callie and the high visibility ball looked good. Callie would pick up 12 strikeouts while walking only four. The runs scored were not earned runs, but many players had a chance to play in the game.TWIS:
So who put the Prom make-up on Kelcy? Was this a home game for Tom? Nice plays on ground balls by Caroline and Nell. JV game with Unity coming up. What was with Steve’s pants? Do you think Luck had any fun? We play in snow and in heat. Way to go Donnie…. Good thing you were hit by the lucky horse shoe. We hit some shots last night and put on a good show. Katie was crushed at the plate a couple of times. Eight games in two weeks… lets hope for sun. Luck made two of the nicest catches that we have seen this year. They are also very young…. Kind of like us. Real ball players can keep unused sunflower seeds in one cheek, the meat in the teeth, and the old shells in the other cheek. Have we stopped at Subway yet this year? Was it also Don’s birthday?… and Tom’s, too? Naomi…we still haven’t forgotten the Tiger thing. Liz hasn’t ripped her pants lately, Katie did. We have enough jewelry to squat the tires on a bus. Skim the top of the bottom of the outhouse. We should have tipped it over with the door down… We missed our chance. We don’t wear our uniforms like a bar team anymore. The visors are very nice since most of a softball game consists of fixing one’s pony tail. Buddy is a great fan… too bad Liz can’t remember the correct last name.Prom this weekend. Head-case city. Kelcy will help you with your make up. Enjoy these games….when you are involved in athletics…you win some and you loose some. Last night, we won some and it was fun… and Grace is feeling better.
